Eva Mendes’ latest New York & Company collection will bring shoppers a whole lot of style — and nostalgia — this fall.
Released today, the collection, inspired by her mother’s and sisters’ ’70s- and ’80s-era fashions, includes chic golden and amber tones, animal prints and throwback styles (like the fan-favorite bow blouse).
“It’s those emotional connections to clothes that I love,” Mendes tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I find old photographs and I’m like, ‘This is incredible. I want to recreate this look somehow.’”
And recreate the looks she did (with an added motherly spin).

Made to be mixed and matched, Mendes says the clothes can easily be thrown on without much thought, because that’s what the actress and mother of two finds herself doing more often than not.
“Becoming a mom — it’s an understatement, it changes everything,” she explains. “The time I have to put an outfit together is no longer the same. If I feel this way, I’m sure a lot of moms feel this way.”

Her experiences as a mom inspired a couple things specific to this collection: All of the items are machine washable (“I can’t remember the last time I dry-cleaned something,” Mendes jokes) and made with relaxed fits (“I’ve really embraced things I can just slip on”).
Along with styles she finds herself loving, such as the knee-length jean skirt, Mendes kept customers’ input in mind, often looking at Instagram comments from fans.
“I feel like I wanted to provide something for everybody,” she says of her latest drop. “Although it’s not my go-to, there’s so many beautiful women that wear bodycon. I wanted to make sure that I had soft pants. I was getting comments from shoppers loving the balloon sleeve, but said it was a little much. We tailored it so there’s a feel of the balloon sleeve without overpowering the arm.”

Also important to Mendes is inclusivity within her clothing line. The sizes range from 0-to-24, and come in petite options, as well. Plus, the majority of items are under $100.
Mendes hopes that people feel comfortable wearing her clothes — and make memories.
“If I go somewhere with my kids, it could be a possible memory that they’ll remember,” she says. “You never know if you’re going to create a memory that will last forever.”
