New by-the-slice pizza shop will open in food court

The Big-Ass Slice Shop, a new restaurant in the Main Street Food & Beverage Food Hall, will open sometime in August. Check out the Facebook page for photos and information. The pizza will be "New York influenced" and served in extra large-sized slices with toppings from classic pepperoni to Margherita to dill pickle.

The Big-Ass Slice Shop will be inside the Main Street Food & Beverage Food Hall at 900 Main St.

Volksfest is here

The Evansville Germania Maennerchor will host the 62nd annual Volksfest From Thursday, Aug. 1, through Saturday, Aug. 3. Stop by for great German food for lunch or dinner, live entertainment and German music, dancing, beer and much more.

Doggone good ice cream social at Homer's Barbecue

Homer's Barbecue and Gabbi's Pet Boutique in Henderson, Ky. will host Gabbi's Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, July 31, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The patio is open to pups, there will be dog treats and toys from Gabbi's for purchase, and an ice cream truck will be on site.

K’s Pizza closes

K's Pizza on Diamond Avenue, which opened last November, has closed its doors.

Pancakes for a cause

The McCutchanville Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8-11 a.m. at the Prime Time North Pub & Grill. Tickets are $10 and include all-you-can-eat pancakes with a side of sausage and coffee from Kingdom Grounds.

Craft beer pairing dinner

The Old National Events Plaza's Savor Evansville cooking crew will partner with Bedford Collab, Mindful Meals and Turn Table Mobile American Cuisine to present a craft beer pairing Dinner on the Bridge on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $75.

On the menu will be a soft pretzel with craft beer cheese, a Prairie Artisan Ales rainbow sherbet sorbet, pineapple-glazed sticky wings with Asian-inspired salad and balsamic dressing; braised short ribs in a pale ale reduction with roasted vegetables in cider and sautéed green beans; and peach cobbler cheesecake and chocolate cake with coconut whipped cream. Each course will be paired with a complementary craft beer.

Prime Murder Mystery

The Prime Time Pub & Grill in Newburgh will host a pirate-themed Murder Mystery Dinner on Thursday, Aug. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. Diners participate as characters. The ticket price of $40 includes dinner. Drinks will be sold separately. There will be prizes, including for best dressed pirate. Seating is limited. Tanuki Mart will close

Tanuki Mart, a Japanese grocery store that sells other, non-food Japanese merchandise, announced on Tuesday, July 23, that it would be closing. According to the post, Tanuki Mart’s last operational day will be Tuesday, July 30, at the latest, and all merchandise will be 20% off until then.
