New hot chicken bus opens
BlueBird Hot Chicken will hold a grand opening on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 4-8 p.m. at the Old Haubstadt Gym in Haubstadt, Indiana. The new food truck is actually a bright blue former school bus serving hot chicken with three levels of heat. There also will be other favorites from chicken and dumplings to cornbread waffles as an accompaniment. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for further times and locations of service.

Senior Happy Hour
The Cross-Eyed Cricket Family Restaurant and Retreat at Leisure Living are bringing back Senior Happy Hour. Cross-Eyed Cricket guests over age 60 may stop in on weekdays between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for specially priced meals starting at $8. Entrees include meatloaf, country-fried steak, roast beef, roast pork, chicken and dumplings and more with a large choice of sides. Meals include a drink.

Dinner on the River
The Downtown Henderson Partnership and the Henderson (Ky.) Chamber of Commerce will present the 2024 Dinner on the River: Pigs & Pearls on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6-10 p.m. at Audubon Mill Park. Dine on roast pig and oysters while enjoying live music on the Henderson riverfront. Tickets are $60.

Entwined Rooftop Wine Tasting
Entwined Wine & Cocktail Bar will hold a special rooftop wine tasting with small plate food pairings on the roof of the ECP Consulting building on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6-8 p.m. Three wines from Southern Glaziers distributors will be featured, and guests can expect education on the wine while they sip and enjoy delicacies made by Entwined chef Michael Hite. Tickets are $55. A cash bar will be available after the pairing for those wishing to socialize further. For more information, call Entwined at 812-550-1393.

Dishes for Wishes
Granted will host Dishes for Wishes, a fundraising gala, at Burdette Park's O'Day Discovery Lodge on Saturday, Sept 14, beginning at 6 p.m. Local bakeries, restaurants and coffee shops will offer tastings and you can vote for your favorites; there will be a silent auction, a cash bar from Prime Time Pub & Grill, and more. Tickets are $100 per person and include a souvenir wine glass and three drinks tickets.

Wine pairing dinner at Just Rennie's
Just Rennie’s Catering and The Wine Vault will host a wine pairing dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. Five courses include roasted brussels sprouts, Toscana soup, crab cakes and shrimp scampi, airline chicken Florentine with Indian corn casserole, and Belgian chocolate ganache cake with chocolate truffles. Porkapalooza
The Newburgh Senior Center will host its annual Porkapalooza fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Pulled pork sandwich lunches will be available both days for $7. The barbecue will be cooked by the Newburgh BBQ Coalition. Whole racks of ribs ($30), whole pork tenderloins ($15) and bulk pulled pork ($25 per quart) can be ordered ahead for pickup on Saturday the 28th, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. To order, call Colleen at 812-598-8332, Gail at 812-629-4634 or the Senior Center at 812-853-5627. This year, there will be a "50/50 up to $2500" raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the Senior Center through Sept 28, before the drawing at 4 p.m.

St. Philip Burgoo and Raffle
The St. Philip Catholic Church Men's Club will host its annual Burgoo and Raffle on Sunday, Sept. 22, beginning at 7 a.m. Pickup will be drive-through only, and containers will be provided. Raffle prizes include a $23,000 grand prize and more cash prizes. Only 3,000 tickets are available at $20 each, and may be purchased at the parish office or from any Men's Club member.

Brewfest
SWIRCA (the Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging) & More will present the 20th annual Brewfest on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6-9 p.m. at the West Side Library Park on West Franklin Street. Tickets are $40 and you receive unlimited sampling of beer and wine, spirit samples, live music and games, food trucks (not included in price of ticket), non-alcoholic beverages and a souvenir glass. VIP tickets are available for $75 and include early entrance, a bar area with additional spirits and slushies, food from Roca Bar and Marida, a swag bag and more. Designated driver tickets are $10. Must be 21 with a valid ID to attend.
