Ever wanted to try taiyaki? The Japanese street food has hit the New Bedford area

Foodies, it's that time of the week again. It's time to find a new place to dine or dish to try.

The SouthCoast is flooded with great spots to indulge in each week but it can get a little overwhelming especially when you are hangry.

New Bedford Eats helps you narrow down the list of places to try by bringing you new menu items, food events, and specials popping up all over the area.

Whether you have been wanting to try Taiyaki, need some fresh summer vegetables, or want to try a new menu item there is something for everyone:

Japanese delight

Taiyaki, a fish-shaped cake often sold as a Japanese street food, is now on the menu at Poke-Soul. Just in time for the hot weather they are loading ice cream in these crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside cakes. They have three signature flavors: Strawberry with strawberry ice cream, whipped cream raspberry syrup, and fruity pebbles; Vanilla with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, caramel sauce, and an Oreo crumble; and Chocolate with double chocolate fudge ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and jimmies. Taste test them today at 63C South Main St., Assonet.

Round the Bend Farm is hosting an Open Farm Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at 92 Allens Neck Road, South Dartmouth. On Chef Shaun’s menu is a 100% grass-fed beef ploppy joe sandwich ($9); pasture-raised sweet Italian pork sausage sandwich ($9) and a homemade vegan black bean burger ($7) that all come with coleslaw and salad. Don’t miss the abundance sale with all summer squash, zucchini, and cucumbers for $.50 per pound. Both lunch and veggies are recommended to be pre-ordered at RTBFarmshop.org.

Specials to dig into

Joes Original Kitchen + Bar, has some specials just for July. You can get Tikka Masala which is yellow curry and tomato braised chicken with rice, veg, and naan bread; a Lobster Reuben with buttered lobster, sauerkraut, and onions on toasted marble rye served with fries; or the Spicy Corn and Tomato Pizza. Head over to 61 State Road, Dartmouth before they are gone.

Get smashed

Have you tried Smashed NB yet? Opening just over a month ago this new burger shop dishes up smashed burgers starting at $13.99; jumbo tenders starting at $11.99 (plain, hot, honey BBQ, or lemon pepper); and old-school milkshakes for $6.99. You have to try the smash sauce at 640 Pleasant St., New Bedford.
