Everything to Know About the 2023 Oscars, Including the Full List of Winners

See every winner, nomination, performer and presenter for Hollywood's biggest night.

The 2023 Oscar nominations made history for Angela Bassett and Marvel Studios with her nod for Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She was the first star ever nominated for an Academy Award for a Marvel role.

The 2023 Academy Award nominations were also a great show of AAPI representation, with Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu each nominated for their performances in Everything Everywhere All At Once, as well as Hong Chou for The Whale. Yeoh made history as the first Asian actress to be nominated for Best Actress, while Judd Hirsch became the second-oldest acting nominee ever at 87.

Other big nominees include All Quiet on the Western FrontThe Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis and The Fabelmans, each with multiple nominations across several categories.

Hopefully, the drama will be kept in the movies at the 2023 Oscars. Hollywood’s biggest night is returning and moving forward from the slap that overshadowed the 2022 Oscars.

“We want to move forward and have an Oscars that celebrates cinema,” Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer said during a press conference in August 2022. “That’s our focus right now, it’s really about moving forward.”

Kramer also said that with the 2023 ceremony being the show's "95th anniversary, we want to return to a show that has reverence for film and 95 years of the Oscars."

"It’s a moment to really reflect on our membership, all craft areas, our changing industry, our fans," the Academy CEO added. "There are ways to do that, that are entertaining and authentic, and that are tied to our mission to honor excellence in movie making.”

At the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Kramer shared (via Entertainment Weekly) that the 95th Academy Awards will be a "return to a show that's about a love of cinema, international cinema, diverse artists" and revealed that "there are going to be some great legacy surprises."

The 2023 Oscars will be produced by Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment. “We are thrilled to have Glenn and Ricky at the helm,” Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a previous press release. “Their expertise in live television production is exactly what the Oscars needs.”

From the show’s date to the nominees to the host, here is everything we know so far about the 2023 Oscars:

How to watch the 2023 Oscars?

Where will the 2023 Oscars take place?

The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

Who is hosting the 2023 Oscars?

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the 2023 Oscars. He joked in a statement, "Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no."

Chris Rock, who was slapped on stage at the 94th Academy Awards, reportedly told an audience during a show that he turned down an offer to host the 2023 ceremony, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rock previously hosted the Oscars in 2005 and 2016.

Watch the Top Gun: Maverick Oscars Promo

In a promo released on Feb. 14, Kimmel spoofs one of the most famous scenes from Top Gun: Maverick when Jon Hamm asks Tom Cruise to return to Top Gun.

In a play on the original scene, Kimmel says, "I have to admit I wasn't expecting to be asked to host again."

Hamm jabs back, "Let me be perfectly clear, you weren't my first choice, or my second choice, or even my third, fourth, fifth or 11th choice. In fact, we asked a lot of people before you."

The banter continues as Hamm and Chris Parnell: Find a host that is unflappable—and un-slappable. Watch the Oscar-worthy teaser below, including a cameo by Billy Crystal.

Who are the new seat-fillers for the 2023 Oscars?

In an unprecedented move, the Academy will use members of the Academy without tickets to serve as seat-fillers for the 2023 awards show. This change comes on the heels of a suggestion by an AMPAS member who was frustrated by the annual lottery system for tickets to the A-list event.

Just days after the Sept. 17 all-members meeting where the suggestion was made, the Academy sent an email to members with a number of reforms for 2023, including the new option for members to serve as seat-fillers.

The memo read in part, "Regarding the Oscars, we too loved the suggestion to have members serve as seat-fillers. We will enact this for the March 12 show and will provide information later this fall about seat-filler guidelines and protocols. In addition, the member lottery will return, with PwC now overseeing the process of vetting and selection."
