Black Friday may have the historical clout, but in recent years supersized online retailer Amazon has made its very own mega-sale event into a holiday unto itself. Prime Day, the retailer's annual exclusive sale for Prime members, is always packed with steep discounts on covetable goods—from high-end tech and essential home appliances to must-have beauty buys, brand name clothes, and accessories.
When is Prime Day?
Originally started in 2015 as part of Amazon's 20th anniversary celebrations, over the years Prime Day has transformed into an annual 2-day event for dedicated online shoppers.
Last year, the massive sales day was postponed until October due to complication from the OCVID-19 pandemic, but this year, the deals are returning to their traditional summer slot. Though it's historically been held in July, this year things are kicking off early, with the sale starting June 21 and running through June 22.
How do you access Prime Day?
While the event is only for Prime members, considering that even pre-pandemic Amazon reported serving more than 150 million Prime members, odds are you may already have access.
The membership, which costs $12.99 per month or $119 per year, includes a number of perks like free two-day shipping, plus access to Prime Video (including Prime originals like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), streaming music, and free reads from their massive collection of books.
