Everything You Need to Know About the Fourth & Final Season of ‘The Good Place’
Everyone has a good place. Sadly, ours is soon coming to an end.
That’s right, the final season of NBC’s The Good Place, which stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson and more, is fast approaching its final season. From cast to plot, here are all of The Good Place season four details you need to know before the show takes its final forking bow.
1. When Does Season Four premiere?
The fourth season kicks off on NBC on Thursday, September 26, at 9 p.m. PT/ET. Now if only we had a trailer already…
2. How Many Episodes will there be?
Michael Schur told TVLine the show’s final season will feature 14 episodes and will end on a high note: an hour-long season finale.
3. Is the Cast Returning?
Yep, pretty much everyone is. Earlier this year, NBC confirmed that original cast members Bell (Eleanor), Danson (Michael), William Jackson Harper (Chidi), Jameela Jamil (Tahani), D’Arcy Carden (Janet) and Manny Jacinto (Jason/Jianyu) are all coming back. Chidi’s ex Simone, played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and gossip blogger John Wheaton, who’s played by Brandon Scott Jones, are returning as well. However, it’s not yet apparent whether Maya Rudolph (Judge Gen), Marc Evan Jackson (Shawn) and Jason Mantzoukas (Derek) will return for season four.
In addition to the cast members we’ve already met, two more actors will join the crew as part of Michael’s experiment. And, apparently, they have connections to Eleanor and Jason!
4. Where Did We Leave Off?
In the finale, the group was in the thick of a new experiment and trying to gain points to proceed to the Medium Place, while helping four new people chosen by the Bad Place. (Yep, lots of people, places and things.) By helping others gain entrance to the Good Place, the Soul Squad explored their own moral worthiness, which made Michael spiral because what is (after)life without a point system?
Eleanor was made to play the architect, and a gossip columnist who tortured Tahani back on Earth and Chidi’s ex Simone arrived as two new Bad Place recruits. In order not to compromise the experiment with his personal history with Simone, Chidi erased his memory and his love story with Eleanor along with it.
5. What Do We Know About Season Four?
Not a whole lot. The stars of the series revealed on social media that filming has wrapped. Schur also revealed a few small tidbits about the plot at San Diego Comic-Con, saying that viewers “may meet a new Janet this year.” We’re guessing he means that literally and not figuratively, as the Alexa-like machine did get more and more human(ish) in the season three finale.
We’ll, of course, be wondering if Eleanor and Chidi will finally get together, although since Chidi erased his memory, things aren’t looking great. In the same TVLine interview, Schur revealed that Eleanor is now taking on more of a leadership role (which she doesn’t like) and having to deal with the fact that the love of her life no longer knows who she is. The stakes are high and a lot of the relationship stories explored in season three will begin to come to a close (Tahani and her sister, Jason and his dad, etc.).
We’ll have to wait and see what goes down when the season premiere airs on Thursday, September 26.
