Ewan McGregor's wife responds to divorce filing: 'It's upsetting and disappointing'
Eve Mavrakis is breaking her silence following Ewan McGregor’s divorce filing. “It’s disappointing and upsetting but my main concern is our four children are OK,” she told The Sun on Sunday.
McGregor filed for divorce on Jan. 19, citing “irreconcilable differences.” According to documents, he listed May 28, 2017, as their formal date of separation.
Ewan, 46, and Eve, 51, share four children: Clara, 21, Jamyan, 16, Esther, 15, and Anouk, 6. The actor is seeking joint custody of their three youngest. Mavrakis reportedly wants sole custody, with visiting rights, and she has hired a lawyer.
In October, McGregor was photographed kissing his 33-year-old Fargo co-star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead. While it’s unclear when their relationship started, Mavrakis hinted on Instagram that the actress is why he ended their marriage.
One user commented, “I can’t believe Ewan would end things with u for that cheap w**re! U are so much better than him!!!! Take him for every penny u can!!!!” To which Mavrakis responded, “What can I do?”
Their daughter Esther McGregor posted an emotional song on Instagram, seemingly referencing her father’s new relationship. She sings about “s**t she found online” on the tune titled “Made you a man.” The lyrics include “Seeing those pictures, they’re making me cry” and “I don’t know to forgive. I don’t know if I can. Ruining me.”
At the Golden Globe Awards, McGregor made headlines for thanking both his girlfriend and his wife during his acceptance speech after winning best performance by an actor in a limited series or motion picture for television for his role in Fargo.
“I want to take a moment to thank Ev, who always stood beside me for 22 years and my four children, I love you,” he exclaimed, before concluding, “I’ve always loved being an actor and hanging out with actors and I got amazing actors to work with on this and it wouldn’t be any Emmett or Stassi without David, Michael, Carrie Coon and there would be no Rey without Mary Elizabeth Winstead so thank you very much.”
The couple hasn’t been hiding, holding hands around Hollywood and sitting side by side at the 2018 Critics Choice Awards earlier this month.
