*Major spoilers for season 1 of Bridgerton below!*

Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen knew he had a big issue on his hands when bringing the series to life. The iconic books that the show was based on have been out for years. That also meant that the secret identity of Lady Whistledown was also out there for anyone to find out.

"Lady Whistledown was a big part of the first season and there were always two tracks that we talked about in the writers room. We knew that a large portion of the audience have read the books and already know her identity from the book. So every time that Penelope Farrington is on-screen, there's always going to be those people that are going to be watching and knowing who she is," Chris exclusively told Seventeen. "But then there's a portion of the audience that are not aware of that. And we knew that we could not be ahead of it and we couldn't telegraph anything. So it was really a matter of those two tracks and we had a lot of fun with that."

"At the end of the first season, it was time to reveal Lady Whistledown, especially knowing where we'll hopefully be going in the future. We're really hoping to explore the power of Lady Whistledown in a very different exciting way."

Chris previously talked to Seventeen about some of the changes that would have to made in the series in comparison to the books.

"I think with any adaptation, there's always going to be differences from the source material. But fans of the books are going to see all the elements they love on screen," he said.

One thing is for sure. This will certainly change things for the audience as they get hope for another season.
