MILAN — Vivienne Westwood will be the next guest designer brand to bring its bridal creations to Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, headlining the fair’s upcoming edition, scheduled for April 23 to 26.

Best known as the brand founded by the late mother of punk and rebel with a hundred causes, Vivienne Westwood — currently helmed by her longtime life and design partner Andreas Kronthaler, its creative director — is to unveil its 2026 bridalwear collection in the Spanish town.

The brand’s bridalwear was formally introduced in 2019, building on the previous 20 years of offering bespoke bridal creations out of the brand’s boutique on London’s Davies Street. It currently comprises couture and made-to-order lines, the latter based on carryover and seasonal bridal designs that can be ordered at select Vivienne Westwood flagships and exclusive retailers worldwide.

The line was catapulted onto the global stage with the wedding dress designed for Sarah Jessica Parker’s character in “Sex and the City,” Carrie Bradshaw. Best known to many fans as the dress Mr. Big stood her up in during the first movie of the franchise, it became one of the character’s most recognizable looks.

The Barcelona show will mark the first time Vivienne Westwood unveils its bridal collections on the catwalk, parading about 30 gowns in the Spanish city.

The runway event is scheduled for April 24 as part of the Barcelona Bridal Night gala kicking off the trade show. The British brand picked the University of Barcelona’s Claustro, or cloisters, as the show venue, a 19th-century landmark and great example of Catalan architecture.

“We are delighted to take part in the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week next April, offering our first presentation of the bridal collections on a catwalk,” said Brigitte Stepputtis, design director, couture and bridal at Vivienne Westwood. “The show we will unveil in Barcelona will celebrate femininity and individuality. In Vivienne’s own words, ‘my clothes allow you to project your personality, giving you the opportunity to express yourself,’” Stepputtis said.

As the 2025 edition’s guest designer brand, Vivienne Westwood follows in the footsteps of Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab and Viktor & Rolf, which showed at the bridal fair in 2024, 2023 and 2022, respectively.

“We couldn’t have a more representative brand than Vivienne Westwood in this 2025 edition inspired by art, creativity, and sustainability — values that we share with the iconic British house, which has been key in its ability to redefine fashion and its connection with the social and natural environment,” said the trade show director Albasarí Caro. “The brand’s presence is a callout to a bold, daring bride and a true privilege for both Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week and the city,” she added.

Among fans of the brand’s bridalwear, Miley Cyrus married Liam Hemsworth in 2018 in an off-the-shoulder gown by the British designer brand, ditto for Belgium’s Princess Maria Laura when she tied the knot with William Isvy in 2022 in Brussels.

The 2025 edition of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week will be held at the city’s Montju?c venue, with about 30 fashion shows animating the showcase during the first four days. Organizer Fira de Barcelona expects the actual trade show — held at the fairgrounds on April 25 to 27 — to gather about 360, mainly international, exhibitors.
