Eye Gloss is the Answer to Smudgy Eye Shadow

You know the kind of humidity that makes your legs stick to the back of every seat? The kind of heat that makes makeup melt down your face? That’s New York City summers in a nutshell. But we’re not here to give you a weather report. We just wanted to give you some context for what Flesh Beauty’s Fleshpot eye gloss was up against during testing.

First things first: What is eye gloss? It’s exactly what it sounds like—a product that makes your eyelids shiny. Though the shiny lid look has been around for years—particularly on fashion runways—it’s only recently started to gain traction for us regular folk.

And that’s because previously, makeup artists would use things like lip gloss or Vaseline to get that gleaming finish. This was fine for a few minutes on a runway, but in real life things got really messy, very quickly. (This writer knows from experience.)

Enter Fleshpot: The peach-tinted jelly formula is a bit tackier than, say, a lip gloss, which makes it adhere to your skin better. Plus, it has tiny flecks of flattering gold and pink glimmer in it. Not glitter—mind you—but glimmer, which is much finer and less obvious.

How to use it: With your fingertips, tap a tiny amount onto the center of your lids to get that nice dewy sheen you see above. You can wear it solo or over some shadow to seal the color in. Again, there’s something about the gloss’s unique texture that makes whatever is underneath stay put. We’ve also found that it makes for a superb highlighter and even a lip balm of sorts. Oh, and it’s pretty great at taming your brows, too.

The verdict: Honestly, for something that seemed, at first glance, sort of gimmicky, it’s become one of the most used products in our makeup kit.
