What Is a Fabergé Egg & Why Was Hiram So Obsessed with It on ‘Riverdale’?
If your only thought during the midseason premiere of Riverdale was “what is a Fabergé egg?” you’re not alone.
This week’s episode featured Hiram (Mark Consuelos) going above and beyond to retrieve a stolen egg, which was snatched by Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni (Vanessa Morgan).
If you need a refresher, Fabergé eggs are rare—we repeat, rare—items that date all the way back to the late 1800s, and they’re worth a whole lot of cash. They were created by the House of Fabergé, which is located in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Although the show hasn’t revealed why Hiram was so keen on retrieving the egg, we do have some insight. In a season three teaser, Mrs. Mulwray (Kelly Ripa) is seen pointing a gun at Jughead (Cole Sprouse) for trying to steal the egg, so it seems to be pretty dang important.
Why? Our best guess is that it doubles as a storage container for Hiram’s latest Fizzle Rock concoction, but we’re not ones to point fingers.
Guess we’ll have to wait until Riverdale returns to the CW next Wednesday, January 23, at 8 p.m.
