Fall is coming fast. Here's our favorite local parties, events
LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Autumn doesn't technically arrive for a couple more weeks, but that isn't stopping locals from looking forward to cooler weather and fall fun.
As the weather tempers down, pumpkin spice coffee creamer, apple scented candles and Halloween decorations are already dominating stores.
How will you celebrate fall? We suggest starting with some of these local events:
City of Howell
Legend of Sleepy Howell — 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19
The popular Legend of Sleepy Howell is a free annual trick-or-treat event hosted by the Parks and Recreation Authority. This year’s theme is monsters. The event will have trick or treating on Clinton Street, Court Street and Church Street, and will include crafts, games, inflatables and food vendors nearby.
Headless Horseman 5K and Monster Mile — 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19
After the day's events, the Parks and Recreation Authority will host its annual costumed 5K. Runners can start anytime between 6 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. at State Street and Clinton Street. The route winds through historic neighborhoods and Scofield City Park. Learn more at howellrecreation.org/events.
Howell Nature Center Howloween — Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27
The Howell Nature Center is inviting locals to celebrate Halloween with wildlife. The paid event will run 3-5 p.m. and will include a hayride, trick-or-treat stations, fresh cider and donuts and wildlife animal presentations.
City of Brighton
Destination Stars Hollow: A Gilmore Celebration — 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21
New this year, downtown Brighton will transform into Stars Hollow, the famous fictional town from the iconic autumn comfort show Gilmore Girls. More than 30 local businesses will adopt the persona of businesses or characters from the show. The event will include the Stars Hollow Knit-a-Thon, as well as a lookalike contest.
Hartland
hARTland Art Walk — Saturday-Saturday, Sept. 21-Oct. 5
Hartland’s annual celebration of artists will include a walking tour of art installations, exhibits and activities, as well as a competition to support local work. Attendees can choose to browse the art or participate in fun activities.
Michigan Makers Fall Craft Show — 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28
This event at 9525 E. High Road will feature more than 150 vendors. Admission is free.
Turkey Trot Heartland Area Project 5K Fundraiser — Sunday, Nov. 3
This 5K at Waldenwoods supports the Hartland Consolidated Schools Foundation and the Heartland Foundation, which benefits local seniors. The race includes a $1,700 social membership award for the top male and female runners.
