Fall’s Hottest Pinterest Trends Are Japanese Fashion, Lobster Sweaters and Bow Nail Art
With summer wrapping up and heading into fall, Pinterest has unveiled its top trends for the autumn 2024 season, analyzing internal global search data from June 2023 versus June 2024. The social media and the visualization platform have seen a surge in searches for the fall — with users searching for upcoming fashion trends and more.
Japan and Japanese-inspired fashion, art, interior design and others associated with the country have seen an uptick in searches — especially as travel to Japan has become a big interest. Searches for “Japan autumn fashion” rose by 140 percent and “Japanese living room design” increased by 135 percent.

According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, the number of international travelers to Japan in June 2024 was nearly 3.2 million people — up nearly 9 percent as compared to 2019, making it the highest recorded number of tourists ever.
Nature-inspired patterns, mixed proportion layering, “leopard print” (up 2,990 percent), “camouflage” (up 2,295 percent), oversize coats and “puffer skirt outfits” (up 1,105 percent) are set to be the fall 2024 season’s major focal points. As the growing interest in sports has continued to skyrocket, so too has the fashion associated with it — searches for “jersey with skirt outfit” have increased 2,000 percent.
Lobster jumpers have seen a 55 percent Pinterest search increase since June 2023 — the likes of Bode, Dries van Noten and Thom Browne have all presented iterations on the runway in previous years. Most notably, the lobster is intrinsically linked heavily with Schiaparelli and the association with the crustacean continues to influence fashion today. Elsa Schiaparelli’s lobster dinner dress was designed in conjunction with Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí in 1937 signifying the link between the fashion and art worlds.
When it comes to beauty, embellished nail designs such as bows (up 2,200 percent), Japanese-inspired nail art (up 600 percent) and the resurgence of fringes are all on Pinterest users’ top of mind. Another trend includes doing full makeup looks. Glowing and dewy styles are bigger than ever before, with the search terms “soft baddie makeup” rising 700 percent and “cool tone makeup looks” increasing 360 percent.
Meanwhile, decor trends are being dictated by user interest in Japanese culture — users are searching for “Japanese vintage art” (up 270 percent), “Japanese futon bedroom” (up 245 percent), “zen bathroom” (up 200 percent) and “Japanese zen garden” (up 120 percent).
“Pinterest data provides valuable insight into upcoming trends by reflecting people’s interests and future plans,” said Sydney Stanback, global insights and trends lead at Pinterest. “Japanese culture is set to have a significant impact on fall 2024 trends, influenced by the increasing number of global travelers to Japan and the desire to incorporate Japanese aesthetics into their lifestyle.”
