The modern Malibu beach house is at 6353 Busch Drive and sits on 1.61 acres in Malibu Park.

It was custom-built for current owner Newman, an Academy Award-nominated composer who has scored more than 100 films.

Newman’s father Alfred was a nine-time Oscar winner; he’s the nephew of film composers Emil Newman and Lionel Newman; the brother of director-writer Tim, composer-conductor Thomas (Oscar-nominated for “WALL-E”) and composer Maria; and cousin of Randy Newman, a singer-songwriter who won two Oscars for film scores including “Toy Story 3.”

The gated estate is just off the Pacific Coast Highway.

Built in 1980, it features five bedrooms and seven full baths. At nearly 7,000 square feet, the home is unusually large for a noted architect like Wright, and it is rare to have such space — and privacy — in the exclusive area, listing broker Neyshia Go, of Sotheby’s International Realty-Beverly Hills Brokerage, told Gimme Shelter.

The home, which is within walking distance of Zuma Beach, is also by the $50 million-plus estate owned by billionaire businessman Don Hankey. Renovations and additions made over the years were done while consulting Wright’s team to stay true to his truth, Go said.

The contemporary home opens with a foyer and statement staircase. A double-height formal living room features glass walls, wood paneling and an inglenook fireplace.

There’s also an open eat-in chef’s kitchen with a pantry and a breakfast bar, along with an open dining room with a fireplace. Four ensuite bedrooms include a main bedroom with its own library and access to an office/loft, along with a private patio that connects to the backyard.

The home also features a movie theater with padded walls, an art studio and a laundry/hobby room.

In addition, the home’s east wing comes with a separate entrance to a downstairs apartment that has its own living area and bathroom. It was formerly Newman’s recording and composing studio and can easily be converted back into a creative studio for a writer, an artist or a musician, Go said.

Outside, the grounds include a pool, a lawn, patio areas and a gazebo — along with a summer kitchen and a pizza oven.
