Families flock to Elk River for Labor Day weekend
NOEL, Mo. — Thousands of water lovers, geared up this weekend to celebrate Labor Day on Elk River.
A very popular spot for folks was Big Elk Floats and Camping.
The first guest showed up at 5:00 a.m. this morning ready to fish in Elk River – and employees said they greeted him with coffee.
The campground actually opened up at 8:00 a.m. sharp for visitors and saw tons of foot traffic throughout the weekend.
Employees say all cabins are full for the holiday weekend.
The campground holds many memories for those in the Four State area including – Julia Lankford who tells us she has been vacationing here with her family for over 50 years.
“We vacation here every summer. And we have some kids here from Texas and from Pineville, Missouri, which is right over here. And we’re just baking in the sun and having a very good time,” said Julia Lankford, Seneca resident.
“You know, here at Big Elk, we still love people. We like our customers, we like our families. We like to see people that floated with us 25 years ago, come back now, have children, married, saying, hey, I was here 24 or 25 years ago. Family traditions,” said Drew Daniel, Big Elks Float and Camping employee.
Even though Labor Day weekend typically marks the end of summer – Daniel says the campground will stay open until October 15.
