Family left shaken after man jumps on car, shatters windshield in apparent road rage incident caught on video
An Anaheim, Calif., family was left shaken after a man climbed on top of the hood of their vehicle and punched their windshield, shattering it. The incident, which is believed to be a case of road rage, was captured on cellphone video by one of the driver’s daughters.
Veneranda Alvarez picked up her two daughters, who are 12 and 13, from school and was meeting her friend, Chris, at a fast food restaurant around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the incident occurred.
Chris, who was on foot, told Los Angeles news station KTLA that he was followed by the man when he walked from a nearby Walgreens parking lot over to the fast food restaurant. It is not known why the man apparently started following him.
“Then when [Chris] came near my passenger side, he had told the guy, ‘Stop harassing me, stop following us,'” Alvarez told KTLA.
The group was too afraid to wait in line to order food, so they drove away. The man allegedly continued to follow them. “It’s scary,” Alvarez told the news outlet. “And he was tailgating me.” In an attempt to get away from the aggressive driver, she made a U-turn. However, he came up from behind her and cut her off.
“That’s when he got out the car and he jumped on the hood of my car, then he started banging on it twice,” Alvarez said. “Then he shattered my windshield.”
The man is seen denting the hood of Alvarez’s Nissan Cube and punching the windshield twice in the 20-second long video shared to Facebook. No one was injured in the car.
Anaheim police are investigating, and Alvarez is hopeful that the man who terrified her family is arrested. “I want him to get caught and be responsible for his actions,” she said.
