A Famous Actor Told Jessica Chastain to Calm Down
Jessica Chastain is plenty vocal on Twitter about the allegations of sexual assault being brought to the light in Hollywood (and, uh, pretty much everywhere) right now. In one particularly powerful tweet after the allegations against Harvey Weinstein came out, the actress says she was "warned" about him. (More than fifty women have come forward with allegations against the former producer.)
Jessica's legitimate concern and outrage, however, was met with some chastising from a "well-known actor." She shared the story earlier this week, as a guest on The Graham Norton Show.
“I was tweeting a lot at the time and actually got an email from a well-known actor that said, ‘Calm down,’” she said. “I found that heartbreaking and can only think he didn’t understand the movement that was happening.”
Just a note: A man telling a woman to "calm down" is never a good look, and it's certainly not one when allegations as serious as sexual assault are on the table.
Thankfully, Jessica said she’ll never stop speaking her mind about injustice. “I think the greatest myth that an industry can create is to make people feel like they’re easily replaceable," she said. "I’m not going to allow that into my life.”
