It’s baaack. The chicken sandwich that dominated our summer. The chicken sandwich that went viral on Twitter. The chicken sandwich that caused mass hysteria and staggeringly long lines. The chicken sandwich that inspired think pieces in even the loftiest publications by the food world’s smartest writers. The chicken sandwich that someone pulled a gun over. That’s right. The chicken sandwich from Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is making its return.

Timed to National Sandwich Day, America’s darling will return to Popeyes locations nationwide on Sunday, November 3. In fact, to promote the sandwich resurrecting on a Sunday, Popeyes created this video poking fun at, ahem, that other chicken chain, which happens to be closed on Sundays. It is also the chicken chain whose sandwich was preferred by many until Popeyes entered the game, which spurred on The Great Chicken Sandwich Wars. (It’s Chick-fil-A, in case you haven’t caught on.)

This time, the chicken sandwich is here to stay. Hopefully, the knowledge that it’s not going anywhere will cut down on the desperate, urgent factor of our nation’s collective enthusiasm for this food item. Let’s keep it more “yay, chicken sandwiches!” and less...gun-pulling. Popeyes chicken sandwich lasted only two weeks after making its debut this August.

The chain was not prepared for the mania caused by how tasty the sandwich was, combined with the war with Chick-fil-A motivating people to flock to both restaurants—Chick-fil-A could keep up; Popeyes could not. Lasting two weeks is even more frustrating when you consider that it took Popeyes two years to perfect just the right combination of buttermilk batter, boneless chicken filets, sour pickles and buttered brioche buns. You made it too good, Popeyes.

While the country took to social media documenting multi-location Popeyes pilgrimages in search of the sandwich—and all the “Sorry, No More Sandwiches” signs they found instead—the chain offered a sort of lol shrug solution: BYOBun and DIY a sandwich from the menu’s chicken tenders. The playful attempt at a PR fix may have gotten some laughs, but it didn’t heal the broken hearts of chicken sandwich lovers everywhere.

Those broken hearts can finally rejoice, though. Popeye’s is even hiring more employees and assigning people to chicken sandwich duty, specifically to keep up with the demand. So set your alarm clocks, and let’s eat some sandwiches November 3.
