  • Bethenny Frankel is “reverse photoshopped” in a new ad campaign that celebrates aging skin.

  • In the video, wrinkles are photoshopped onto the 52-year-old’s face.

  • “I’m getting older—full face of makeup, or full face of wrinkles, I’m not ashamed,” she says.

We know Bethenny Frankel to be adamantly against using filters on social media. The former Real Housewives star often shares filter-free, makeup-free selfies to remind followers that “no makeup and natural is as real as we can be.” But she recently broke her own rule to make a point. In a new Laura Geller beauty campaign, the 52-year-old is “reverse photoshopped” to age her complexion, proving that wrinkles are nothing to be ashamed of.

In the ad, Frankel walks off a photo shoot set in full glam from head to toe. Looking toward the camera, she begins her monologue. “It takes a lot of work to look this good, but I’ve got nothing to hide. Take away the hair extensions, the lashes, I’m still me,” she said, literally removing those elements. “Shall we kick it up a notch?” she continued, sitting down at a vanity. “Let’s see where these wrinkles—and yes, I have one or two—are headed. How about we reverse photoshop?”

The clip cuts to an edited version of Frankel with added forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and smile lines. “I’m getting older—full face of makeup, or full face of wrinkles, I’m not ashamed,” she said. “But a little lipstick never hurt a girl. Be you, be proud.”

To no one’s surprise, Frankel’s followers really appreciated the sentiment. “You are absolutely AMAZING! This is EXACTLY what we all need to see & hear,” one person commented on Instagram. “This is a great message. Thank you for showing that wrinkles aren’t scary,” another added. “This aging thing gets a whole lot easier when people in the public eye are honest like this! ??????” someone else wrote.

In a press release accompanying the campaign, Frankel shared how proud she was to be a part of it. “A wrinkle here or there isn’t the end of the world and it’s about time we stop filtering, photoshopping, and portraying a false image of what we really look like,” she said. In an interview with Oprah Daily, she discussed how she hopes the ad contributes to much-needed aging representation.

“You don’t see any age representation out there anymore because everybody’s chasing youth,” she said. “As [supermodel] Paulina Porizkova said, you’re not seeing any aging between J.Lo and Betty White.”

But now, thanks to women like Frankel and Porizkova, we are—finally.
