Fans Praise Drew Barrymore for Her 'Honesty' About Pressure to Look a Certain Way
Drew Barrymore does not subscribe to the standards Hollywood has placed on physical appearance.
The Charlie's Angels actress opened up in a resurfaced clip from The Drew Barrymore Show, where she condemned the pressures associated with looking a certain way when you're constantly in the public eye.
"You're supposed to be thin, you're supposed to be taller. You're supposed to have a 'body after baby!'" she opened the transparent chat with members of her live studio audience at the time.
She continued, explaining some of the invasive ways paparazzi has unknowingly captured her against her will in the past. "They used to literally long lens you and zero in on you in a bathing suit, and put your cellulite blown-up," she divulged, somewhat making light of it by adding, "Those were interesting moments; a lot of vulnerability there."
"I just thought, 'I can't... I can't do this. I have to fight this.' I don't want to live a life where I think I'm supposed to be a certain thing, or starve myself, and diet and exercise," the 50 First Dates star went on, joking, "It turns out, I do not have the discipline. I'd rather, you know, motorboat some food at midnight in the fridge."
The snippet, which was shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 29, received a wave of support from fans who agreed with Barrymore's sentiments.
"All of those things were put out by the patriarchy. Good for you, Drew ??????," one said, while another concurred, "Please keep this conversation going. For all women. You are the best ??."
"I love her honesty! She is SO down-to-earth! I would love to hang out with her sometime!????," a third gushed.
"While it’s extremely important to be and feel healthy, it’s not okay to do that because of pressure," someone else noted, and we strongly second that!
