Niecy Nash thanked one very important person while accepting her award at the 75th Primetime Emmys—herself.
The veteran actress took home Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her role in Netflix’s Dahmer on Monday, Jan. 15.
“I’m a winner, baby!” she said during the joyous moment, adding. “Thank you Ryan Murphy for seeing me. Evan Peters, I love you…”
She then shouted out herself, stating, “And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank me, for believing in me and doing what they said I could not do. And I want to say to myself in front of all you beautiful people, ‘Go on girl with your bad self! You did that!'”
“I accept this award on behalf of every Black and Brown woman that has gone unheard yet overpoliced, like Glenda Cleveland, like Sandra Bland, like Breonna Taylor,” she continued.
“As an artist, my job is to speak truth to power, and baby, I’m going to do it till the day I did. Momma, I won!” she concluded in her powerful and moving speech, which received a standing ovation from the audience.
The Rookie: Feds actress played Glenda in the 2022 Netflix drama series, which also starred the aforementioned Peters as the infamous serial killer who claimed 17 lives.
This marks Nash's first primetime Emmy, as she previously won a Daytime Emmy in 2010 Style Network’s Clean House.
Fans couldn't contain their excitement with one writing, "Niecy Nash-Betts is finally an Emmy winner after 5 nominations and she gave one of the best speeches in #Emmys history!"

"Niecy Nash’s speech brought tears to my eyes. An instant classic," another added, as a third quipped, "Niecy Nash giving a masterclass on how to make the most out of an #Emmys acceptance speech."
Another couldn't get over how motivational it was, stating, "I need Niecy Nash-Betts acceptance speech read to me every single morning!!!!"
While many award shows in years past have been criticized for their lack of diversity and inclusivity, this year’s ceremony is already earning praise on social media with two back-to-back wins from Black female stars—The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri (Best Supporting Female Actor in a TV Series) and Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson (Best Actress in a Comedy).
“??What I love about Ayo Edebiri and Quinta Brunson's wins is that they both depict Black women in the fullness of who we are and in our journey of becoming. Syd is figuring out her place in the culinary world and Janine is finding her footing as a teacher,” one social media post underscored.
Brunson’s win makes her the first Black woman to win the category since Isabel Sanford's win in 1981 for The Jeffersons.
Other tweets pointed out that it was a true moment of celebration as the Emmys ceremony is taking place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
