Fans React to Apple's Brand New Features—Including a New iPhone Charger
Apple unveiled some major changes coming for its products and fans have mixed feelings.
During its annual presentation, which was held on Tuesday, Sept. 12, Apple announced that it's saying goodbye to the charging port for the upcoming iPhone 15. As TechCrunch confirmed, the new models will instead have a USB-C like other smartphones on the market, and the same kind of cable already used for the most recent MacBooks. It's also being introduced as the only way to charge AirPods Pro 2 going forward.
Many shared their thoughts on social media, reacting to the retirement of the longtime lighting port.
Android and Samsung users rejoiced in Apple fans having the same charger as them, noting that now everyone will have an "iPhone charger."
thanks to the power of regulations, a time is nigh when I will no longer have to dig through the back of a dusty closet because a visitor in my home said "hey do you have an iPhone charger".
thank you, European Union.— Rob DenBleyker (@RobDenBleyker) September 12, 2023
Oh no how will iPhone users live if they don't specifically ask for an iPhone charger now. They're just like us android peasants now. https://t.co/JsFK7uRAGV

Meanwhile, iPhone users lamented having to say goodbye to their longtime chargers.
nvm y’all i’m not getting the iphone bc i refuse to buy a new charger LMAO

However, plenty of other iPhone owners were happy that they didn't have to deal with a charger that's often faulty.
This is so good because whenever the official iPhone charger breaks and you have to get a new one they NEVER work and it’s so dodgy. This is so great. Now you can charge with any USB-C product. https://t.co/OF5b8JL9GG

About time to be honest
Lightning charges way too slow— Dave the Reply Guy (@davethereplyguy) September 12, 2023
Best upgrade on the phone , I will stop buying lightening cable every week . Yes!!

Apple didn't decide to switch to a USB-C port for aesthetic reasons, or to force iPhone users to buy a new product. As the Council of the European Union announced, the USB-C port will become mandatory for mobile phones in Europe, starting in 2024.
Fans also shared their reactions to other new features, like the "double-tap" on the Apple Watch, that allows you to perform tasks by simply tapping your fingers.
what double tap on the apple watch is gonna feel like pic.twitter.com/ho1rokXCCs

The fucking double tap on the new Apple Watch is absolutely incredible

"Double Tap" is also the same exact finger pinch gesture as selecting items while wearing Apple Vision Pro, so... that could be interesting to keep an eye on hah

However, someone noted that it's been an accessibility feature for years, which is now just being added as one of the main features: "Double Tap was basically already an accessibility feature, FYI. In fact, you can navigate your whole Apple Watch with one hand and have been able to for years."
