It's barely been two months since the Kansas City Chiefs won their second consecutive Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, but the casual viewers have already forgotten the nitty gritty details, leaving sports fans stewing in their frustration.
It all stems from a recent Jeopardy! clue under the category "Current Affairs," worth $600.
"Will it be 'How soon they forget' or 'Always Remembered'? He caught the Super Bowl 58-winning pass for Kansas City," host Ken Jennings read off in a clip uploaded to Twitter by sports anchor Harold R. Kuntz.
But between all three contestants, nobody could remember that it was wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. who caught the ball from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to score the winning touchdown with just seconds to spare.
Sam Buttrey buzzed in almost immediately to suggest that it was Travis Kelce who cinched the win, with neither of the other players having even a guess.
Jennings reminded the contestants that Kelce watched the big win on the jumbotron as it happened, throwing his hands up in the air to joke, "How soon we forgot!"
Some fans were aghast over the unintended slight, with one replying, "Umm excuse me, Jeopardy?! Mecole Hardman is a STAR!"
Others pointed out how "throw[ing] sports trivia in regular Jeopardy...makes for some entertaining TV," making some viewers "definitely...feel smarter."
The Super Bowl broke viewing records in 2024, drawing in over 123 million sets of eyes in what became both the longest Super Bowl game and the most-watched program in U.S. television history, according to Fox, so it's a bit surprising to see that not a single one of the contestants got it right, but it's far from the first time, and certainly won't be the last.
