Fans Spot Beloved Sonic Menu Item in the Frozen Aisle at Walmart
If you love tater tots from Sonic, you’re in for a treat.
The beloved menu item is reportedly now available in Walmart’s freezer section, which means you can skip the drive-thru and have it any time you want from the comfort of your home.
The crispy golden nuggets basically have their own fan club, so it’s not a surprise that when the item was spotted in stores, customers couldn’t contain their excitement.
The 28-ounce package aims to deliver the same taste as the ones you pick up with your meal during a Sonic run.
Markie Devo, an Instagram account dedicated to all things food, shared a snap of the bag, which features the chain's blue and red color scheme and logo.
And there's no question about what's in the bag as the only other label is a bold "TOTS" written on the front of the bag, lending itself to the idea that the brand is relying on its loyal fanbase—or an "IYKYK" (if you know, you know) mindset—for success.
The caption on the post gives additional info about the product: “Sonic forking frozen Tots!!! These are made with Idaho potatoes??."
Fan reactions were, for the most part, pleased, with one fan noting, “Whattttttt… count me in!!!!” as another stated, “YES! 1,000x yessss.”
Others weren’t convinced with one suggesting they wouldn’t be the same: “Nope, sonics tots have to be bought at sonics.”
Many fans were also hopeful that tots landing in stores meant that other products would follow suit, with one hoping for “delicious mozzarella sticks” to be added next, as another lamented about the brand’s “broccoli cheddar tots.”
The tot's roll-out in stores seems to be fairly recent as they aren’t even listed on the Walmart website, so there’s no indication of pricing, though they’ll likely cost slightly more than at a fast food restaurant as they’ll have more in the bag than a standard medium order at Sonic, which goes for roughly $2.99 without tax.
