What Your Favorite Color Says About Your Love Life, According to Relationship Experts
You may have chosen your favorite color as a child or switched it as an adult. It's likely helped shape your wardrobe, home decor and even mood. But can it shape your love life?
It might.
"Colors draw attention to all kinds of emotions examined through personality tests, such as love, friendliness, energy, assertiveness, fear and generosity," says Dr. Lee Phillips, a psychotherapist and certified sex and couples therapist. "Knowing your favorite can say many things about your love life."
At the very least, one relationship therapist says it's fun to think about.
"Exploring how your favorite color can offer insights into your love life is an enjoyable and captivating exercise, as it grants a fresh perspective on your personality and emotional inclinations," says Alex Anderson-Kahl, Ed.S, NCSP, the founder of Addiction 2 Art who has an interest in the intersection of psychology and color theory.

What Your Favorite Color Says About Your Love Life, According to Relationship Experts
Blue
The color blue is calming.
"Putting people in a working environment with blue or [in] a medical office is soothing," says Susan Trombetti, a matchmaker and CEO of Exclusive Matchmaking.
What does that have to do with romantic relationships?
If your favorite color is blue, Trombetti says, "It means you are a wonderful lover."
It's possible to get even more granular with blue, which comes in many hues.
"The lighter blues might be dreamier," says Milena Dishovska, a female empowerment and relationship coach and co-founder of Tantra Alchemy of the Heart. "Darker and vivid blues are more alive and dynamic in both relating and sex."
Green
If Dr. Lee could sum green types up in four words, he'd use "calmness, harmony, healing and trustworthiness."
Trombetti concurs—people who love green are serene.
"Green is the color of trust and contentment," Trombetti says. "It's also beautiful and the color of nature."
While they may not be prone to risk-taking in public, don't underestimate a green behind closed doors.
"Their sexual generosity knows no bounds when they feel safe and loved," Anderson-Kahl explains.
Red
This one likely won't come as a surprise.
"Red is invigorating and exhilarating, an invitation for lovers who like initiating passionate engagements," Anderson-Kahl explains. "It represents confidence, passion, and the ability to incite craving feelings in others easily."
For this reason, rocking red is a bold move.
"Red [is a] power color whether in the bedroom or boardroom," Trombetti explains.
Orange
The predominant color in fire, Dr. Lee says orange indicates high energy, abundance and creativity in a romantic partner. Anderson-Kahl has a similar opinion.
"Orange signifies cheerfulness and enthusiasm while highlighting intuition and gut instincts," he says.
Yellow
Those who gravitate towards this sunny color are generally happy types.
"Yellow speaks of an expansive, cheerful and strong personality," Dishovska says. "They are the sunshine in the couple—very innovative, inexhaustible and luscious, like the sun itself. They can brighten your day."
Even cloudy days feel clear and warm when dating a yellow.
"Their energy is lighter, vibrant and self-assured in love," Dishovska says. "They can be counted on to lighten the vibe with new, fun adventures."
White
Anderson-Kahl says white often signifies purity, which holds true of people who consider the neutral hue their go-to. But it's possible to get deeper.
"White evokes purity along with cleansing properties—characteristics that denote youthfulness, innocence and sometimes even a dismissive view towards sexuality," Anderson-Kahl explains. "Those attracted to white crave simplicity which can manifest as either uncomplicated casual relationships or the reliable routine found within marriages."
Pink
This rosey color is sensual and spice and all things nice.
"Combining the passion of red with the purity of white, pink signifies unconditional love along with romance adorned by intimate care," says Anderson-Kahl. "Sensuality becomes central for pink enthusiasts who devote time pampering themselves through massages or indulgent baths."
Purple
Purple types like to lead the way and they tend to attract attention without asking for it.
"They have a royal presence," Dishovska says. "They are intellectual and integrated. You can't not notice them when they enter the room, as they have an aura of quiet presence."
Gold
The metallic of Olympic champions and a coveted choice when picking jewelry, lovers who love gold exude wealth, prosperity and high quality.
"In the realm of relationships, it might signify a preference for a luxurious lifestyle accompanied by stability and a partner who appreciates life's finer aspects," Anderson-Kahl says.
Gray
A popular color for baby nurseries, gray is a controversial color in romance.
"Gray symbolizes emotional detachment—a lack of excitement or enthusiasm for those who favor this color," Anderson-Kahl says. "The stable and steadfast nature of gray promotes logic instead of passion."
Anderson-Kahl says that gray types tend to shut down their emotions in new relationships, leaving them feeling lonely.
"Boring color that denotes basic qualities that translate into boring in the romance department, in my opinion," Trombetti adds.
Eek! But that doesn't mean you're doomed for a perpetually cloudy romantic life if you like gray. Dr. Lee offered some hope, saying people who like gray can also represent "balance, composure and neutrality."

Brown
This cozy, ethereal hue is out in force as the season shifts from summer to fall. And people who like the color year-round have cozy-season vibes.
"Brown enthusiasts emit warmth and depth while being highly attuned to their partners' needs and desires," Anderson-Kahl says. "They possess grounded qualities alongside extreme loyalty but may harbor fears about relinquishing control during sexual encounters."
Black
Elegant or a little evil? People who gravitate toward black may represent a bit of both and then some.
"Black signifies mystery alongside hidden charms," Anderson-Kahl says. "It also hints at concealed agendas within individuals aligned with the color black. Many who adore wearing black clothing display [...] an affinity for power dynamics playing out in intimate experiences."
