My Favorite Makeup Products This Month Have Me Channeling 1960s Brigitte Bardot

Summer Fridays and Skkn by Kim are partially responsible.
I have not exactly been in a makeup rut but I haven’t been experimenting heavily, either. And I don’t mean with products, but you know, vibes and looks. The last few months I have accidentally gotten stuck in my foundation, subtle-ish blush, neutral eye makeup, and natural lipstick routine. I’ve been trying to spice it up and in that spirit landed on a ‘60s Brigitte Bardot aesthetic.
I was actively looking for a way to switch up my makeup but the four products I liked of the dozens I tested lent themselves organically to the French bombshell look. The products are Summer Fridays’s Sheer Skin Tint, Haus Labs by Lady Gaga Color Fuse Blush Powder, Kosas Soulgazer Intensifying Gel Eyeliner, and Skkn by Kim Highlighter.
Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint
Given that a large part of my job is to test beauty products, I am often way ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, that is not true here and I am kicking myself for it. Summer Fridays’s reviewer-loved and very viral skin tint is incredible and I wish I had tried it sooner.
It is, as the name states, pretty sheer but not without coverage. My skin is prone to redness and often spotted with hyperpigmentation which it managed to neutralize while still having minimal coverage. I am famously picky about complexion products, but this one gets five stars.
Haus Labs by Lady Gaga Color Fuse Blush Powder
I am not really a powder blush person but this formula is so good it doesn’t feel like one. It comes in six shades and my go-to is the brick rose French Rosette shade. It looks seamless, doesn’t settle into pores, and is as easy to blend and apply as its cream counterpart. It’s also the only powder formula I’ve ever been apply to apply with my fingers. I rubbed them across, picked up pigment, and then dabbed across my cheeks.
Kosas Soulgazer Intensifying Gel Eyeliner
I have never managed anything even resembling a smokey eye because it seemed too difficult until an Instagram reel made it dummy-proof-level easy. I followed the steps outlined in the video and viola!
If you are following the same smudging application method, be warned: You have a mere matter of seconds before the formula becomes immovable. Although it makes it a little bit harder, it’s also the reason Soulgazer Eyeliner lasts for a dozen hours.
Skkn by Kim Highlighter
I almost immediately wrote off Skkn’s Highlighter after swatching it on my hand, it just seemed lackluster. Thank god my testing process is more rigorous than that because now I’m obsessed with it. It just melts into and disappears in the sense that you can’t distinguish it from the rest of your skin. But you’ll know it’s there because suddenly your face is lit up and catching light like you’ve hired gaffers to follow you around.
(P.S. If you’re interested in the lip combination it’s E.l.f’s Cream Glide Lip Liner in Pinky Swear as an all-over lipstick topped with Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Crystal.)
