'FBI: International' Showrunner Teases 'Major Loss' in Premiere
Greg Hovanessian as Damien Powell in 'FBI: International.'
It's been a grueling eight months of anticipation for FBI: International fans who have been desperate to find out the aftermath of the Season 2 finale's explosive ending. Finally, though, that patience is about to pay off when the series returns for its Season 3 premiere on Tuesday night, and yes, all of your biggest questions will be answered.
The FBI spinoff, which takes place in Budapest, Hungary, last saw the team's headquarters blown to smithereens by a henchman for Yusuf Sydin (?zgür Karadeniz), a terrorist financier who attempted to purchase a stolen nuclear warhead. It's unclear whether the key informant in the custody of the FBI's International "Fly Team," Olivia Thornton (Kristen Connelly), was moved in time—or whether all of the agents inside managed to get out of dodge before the big boom, for that matter.

Ahead of FBI: International's Season 3 premiere episode, titled "June," Parade talked to series showrunner Matt Olmstead about what viewers can expect from the show's much anticipated return, and he assured that it'll be like no time has passed at all, as it "picks up in the immediate aftermath" of that fiery finale.
While Special Agent Raines (Carter Redwood) and the trusty pooch Tank were outside of the office building when the bomb went off and are probably safe, Olmstead warns that there will be someone who doesn't come out of the situation in one piece, teasing, "The explosion not only takes the building that houses the off-site office down but sends a huge ripple effect through the team. There ends up being a major injury—and a major loss." Those who were potentially still in the building include the informant and agents Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank), Jamie Kellett (Heida Reed), Damian Powell (Greg Hovanessian), Megan "Smitty" Garretson (Eva-Jane Willis) and Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto).

While Olmstead refused to confirm whether the reported plans for Kellett to leave early in Season 3 have anything to do with the explosion—"That is highly classified information," he joked—what we do know is that she'll at least have time to develop a "collegial" relationship with series newcomer Special Agent Amanda Tate (Christina Wolfe), an intel analyst who joins the team this season and brings "new energy and expertise" to the crew.
"Her character has been working as Lead Analyst for the local FBI LEGAT and has been somewhat unfulfilled job-wise," Olmstead previewed. "She has been in Budapest for personal reasons and has watched the Fly Team from afar. This case, in the Season 3 premiere, puts her front and center in the action." That means the explosion will likely be the catalyst for her entering the fray as she helps the team to pick up the pieces after the devastating detonation.
We'll have to wait and see who managed to escape the blast (and who didn't) when FBI: International returns with its third season premiere on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
