The FEST in Wickliffe has 'grown in spirit;' event set for Aug. 4
Jul. 30—The FEST, Northeast Ohio's largest outdoor Christian music and family festival, is slated for Aug. 4 on the grounds of the Center for Pastoral Leadership.
According to the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, the FEST draws more than 35,000 visitors to Wickliffe annually. This year's theme, "Instruments of Peace," was chosen to focus attention on building a kinder, more caring community.
The grounds will open at 10 a.m. for the free event. Events will then begin at noon with four national Christian artists performing on the main stage beginning at 12:30 p.m., including Caleb and John, Cochran and Co., We the Kingdom and Casting Crowns, Billboard's top-selling act in Christian music since 2007. Close, accessible and free parking will be available.
"The FEST has not only grown in size and years, it's also grown in spirit," said Father Bob Stec, a founder of the annual event in 2001. "For thousands across the region and for so many who volunteer, and work to bring the FEST to life, it's part of their annual tradition."
The FEST is a moment where people are able to see and experience the goodness of community, as well as the blessing of coming together to share faith and family values, Stec said.
"At the heart of making the FEST possible are wonderful sponsors who believe strongly in our community," he said. "There are also the most amazing volunteers who work so hard to create this inspiring and amazing day. If you come, you will see that it's really well done and that's a compliment to all who work so hard and dedicate their time to creating a glimpse of God's glory for all who join us."
The FEST will feature opportunities for prayer and worship, kids' activities, inflatables and entertainment options, including extreme water tag and a petting zoo, along with a BMX show performed throughout the day.
Additionally, adults will be able to enjoy the Moms' Relaxation Station and the Man Cave. Spectators will also be able to get snow cones, giveaways, popcorn, treats and more.
This year's theme for the FEST is taken from the timeless prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, Stec said.
"Through all the activities, displays, signage and songs, we will help each person renew their commitment to work for a kinder, more thoughtful and loving community, country and world," he said. "Each of us are instruments — builders — of that better world."
The displays, activities, crafts and games that will fill the FEST grounds are intended to reinforce the theme, Stec said.
"Our hope is that the FEST will inspire all who join us to be builders of a kinder, more loving and peaceful world for all of God's people," he said. "There's something for everyone at the FEST."
All are invited to join Bishop Edward Malesic and Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost at the closing Mass at 8:15 p.m. After Mass, there will be a fireworks display, scheduled to start at 10 p.m.
"So many truly look forward to the FEST as a highlight of summer and an important day of the year," Stec said. "It's like a retreat day — a day of renewal, inspiration, hope. It's an inspiring day of faith, family and fun all for free."
