Finding a Family: Jeremiah

“I’ve always had a soft spot for dogs. Dogs have been the best thing ever to me.”

The look of surprise on Jeremiah’s face when he sees Igor, an adoptable dog at Best Friends Pet Resource Center in NWA is priceless. He immediately lights up and the new best friends go on a walk. Jeremiah is 12 and loves dogs. Upon meeting Igor, it’s easy to see why the pair have an instant bond…they both are looking for forever families.

Outside of his love of dogs, Jeremiah enjoys video games, his favorites are The Hunter Call of the Wild and Call of Duty. He also enjoys photography, playing sports and cooking and says it’s a way for him to relax. Jeremiah says “it calms me down, makes me feel like I’m in a good place, same with cooking I love cooking. Cooking is my favorite thing.” Even though he has many interests his main focus is art and wants to be a tattoo artist when he grows up.

Jeremiah has been in the foster care system for one year. Brenna McClure, Jeremiah’s adoption specialist with the Arkansas Division of Children and Family Services, says Jeremiah has experienced physical abuse and now is the time for him to be with a permanent family. Brenna adds “for Jeremiah and at his age right now I think this is the prime time for him when it comes to finding a forever home. Especially how well he’s doing right now. We have kids that sit in foster care they kind of regress and lose that hope of finding a forever family.”

When asked about what he’s looking for in a family, Jeremiah says “I’m not looking for anything too big, maybe like no more than two siblings other than me because I don’t want nothing too big because that would be overwhelming.” He also wants a home where he can feel loved “my type of love is expressing it multiple ways, hugs, like telling you I love you.” Brenna agrees and says “he’s ready for a forever family. He’s ready to just be in one spot and not have to change roles as he goes to different foster homes.”

Brenna says he would thrive in an environment where he’s allowed to be a kid and Jeremiah would like if his family would not only welcome him…but a furry best friend as well.
