Fire rescue crews with the Carrollton Fire Department in Texas responded to a man experiencing a medical emergency while he was pouring concrete around his home. After making sure the patient was well taken care of, the rescue crew approached the next issue: ensuring that his hard work didn't go to waste.

"Yesterday — Carrollton Fire Rescue crews responded to assist a citizen that was having a medical emergency while pouring concrete for a few projects around his house," the department shared on their Facebook. "Crews quickly attended to the citizen's medical needs but noticed that a lot of concrete was going to be wasted if something wasn't done, and done quickly."

So, crew members responding to the incident called off-duty firefighters, who had “experience with finishing concrete,” to complete the man's DIY project. One even brought his own tools.

"Together with the on-duty and off-duty firefighters they finished the concrete work for the citizen while he was being treated for his emergency at a local hospital. This is another example of our crews caring about our Citizens — Job Well Done!" the department wrote in the post.

Many members of the community were quick to praise the firefighters who, they say, went "above and beyond" the call of duty.

"Thank you for making Carrollton a wonderful place to live. You’re doing a great job keeping us safe and spreading kindness. Thank you," one person shared on the post.

Another wrote: "Thank you all for helping this man. He will be so happy when he returns home! You went beyond your duties. Your hearts are full of joy!"
