Firefighters helped a woman deliver her baby at home during a snowstorm. What happened next will melt your cold heart.
A couple in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are very grateful for some thoughtful firefighters who not only helped them during an unplanned at-home birth but shoveled their driveway.
Scotty Abram and his wife, Cassy, had just arrived after being sent home from the hospital when Scott Jr. decided to make his grand debut — and he was so ready that the couple didn’t have time to make it back to the hospital.
Abram admitted that he was nervous. “At first I was wondering is this baby gonna be OK — we’re at home, we’re by ourselves,” he told local affiliate FOX 28.
First responders were notified, but Abram had to take matters into his own hands.
“I was delivering a baby the next minute, and then the Fire Department showed up, and they were calm, cool and [collected],” Abram told the outlet.
Shane Mell was one of the responding firefighters. “We realized there was quite a bit of snow in the driveway [so] we started requesting some additional help from other units,” he said.
Some of those firefighters picked up shovels and got to work clearing out the new parents’ driveway. “We do anything we can do to help the individuals that need help,” Mell said.
“Thank you, God bless you, and we really appreciate it,” Abram said of the firefighters.
