First Food Truck Friday of the year is a success

Jun. 27—The first Food Truck Friday of the year brought more than just delicious cuisine to the London-Laurel Farmers Market; the annual event series featured native Kentuckian band The Creekers.

The Creekers consist of Tanner Horton on vocals and lead guitar, Allen Hacker on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jagger Bowling on backup vocals and bass, Ashton Bowling on cajón drum, and Scott Sutton on backup vocals and banjo.

The group hails from Leslie and Clay counties. The Creekers have worked their way up to performing at several festivals and as opening acts for artists such as Cole Chaney, Nicholas Jamerson, Brother Smith, and Rhonda Vincent.

The Creekers took the stage at 6 p.m. and closed out their performance around 8 p.m. The band played songs from their recently released album Pour Me in the Creek, such as "Hometown," "Johnnie Lynn," and "Leslie County Blues."

Throughout their performance, the group interacted with the crowd — displaying the Southern hospitality that locals were raised on. The group sprinkled in a few jokes between songs as well.

"One of my chickens laid a fried egg this morning," one member joked about the high temperatures.

The lyrics to many of their songs address subject matter that country folk can easily resonate with, such as missing home.

During the performance of "Leslie County Blues," The Creekers changed the lyrics to "Laurel County Blues," which earned some excitement from the crowd.

The Creekers' new album — released less than two weeks ago on June 14 — is available for sale on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music and YouTube.

The food trucks at the event set up shop at 5 p.m. and remained open until 9 p.m. The featured food trucks included Street Tacos, Paradise Teas, LaDonna's Mobile Kitchen, Old Town Grill, Crazy Eatz, Moody Cows, Sip Gypsy, Cal's Kitchen, and The Little Cupcake.

Additionally serving was King's Kettle Corn, under a canopy.

This event was only the first of three planned this summer. To stay up to date and not miss out on the upcoming Food Truck Fridays, follow "Visit London KY" and "London Laurel County Farmers Market" on Facebook.
