A first look at the 2019 Oscars red carpet
Oscars week is kicking off, with the red carpet set up on Hollywood Boulevard.
About 300 to 400 people are working to make sure the big night goes off without a hiccup. The production crew have even built a special roof over the red carpet, in case of rain on the night of the event.
Each year, the red carpet has a new look. This year, a giant silver and gold “A,” for the Academy, is set up at the entrance to the Dolby Theatre. Although there is always a unique theme, the walk up the iconic grand staircase into the theatre remains the same.
“2019 will be the seventh year the Dolby Theatre is home to Academy Awards,” said Glenn Kiser, director of the Dolby Institute. “It’s exciting to see the transformation that takes place to prepare for Hollywood’s biggest night, and we’re proud of the role Dolby technologies played in bringing audiences deeper inside this year’s most compelling films.”
The production crew has already started rehearsing and getting the stage set for Hollywood’s biggest night. The audio team is preparing for big performances from Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, Queen and more.
“The performances have become so much more important over the years, and artists now can bring their own band,” Paul Sandweiss, an audio engineer for the 91st Academy Awards, told Yahoo Entertainment. “Each year, the performances get bigger and better, but that requires even more preparation on our end.”
And if you’re an Oscar fan, you’re in luck! There is an official Oscar pop-up shop open to the public at Hollywood Boulevard and N. Highland Avenue through March.
The ceremony will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. EST on February 24, 2019.
