Five Bay Area restaurants added to CA Michelin Guide

(KRON) — Most restaurants view making the Michelin Guide as a coveted distinction. Five Bay Area restaurants have been added to the California Michelin Guide list, which was released Wednesday.

This year, the California Michelin Guide has added new restaurants to its list every two months. Ten restaurants were added in March, five were added in May and 13 in July.

Below is the list of the five newly added Bay Area restaurants, including three in San Francisco.

1. Molti Amici (Healdsburg)

This Italian restaurant in the North Bay received praise for its wood-fired pizzas and house-made pastas.

“They may not be reinventing the wheel, but those pizzas are ideally blistered and feature simple but compelling toppings like squash blossom with fontina and balsamic,” the Michelin Guide wrote. “The pastas, like a satisfying take on bucatini amatriciana topped with crunchy breadcrumbs, offer an ideally al dente chew.”

Located at 330 Healdsburg Ave., Molti Amici is right by Healdsburg Plaza in the city’s downtown area.

2. Azalina’s (San Francisco)

Azalina’s is a Malaysian restaurant located in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood at 499 Ellis St.

“Chef Azalina Eusope continues to make her mark as an ambassador for Malaysian cuisine in this cleverly designed space that calls to mind a tropical hideaway ensconced in the rough-and-tumble Tenderloin,” the Michelin Guide wrote.

3. Hed 11 (San Francisco)

Hed 11 is not the Thai restaurant many are accustomed to, such as dishes like Pad Thai, Curry, and Tom Yum soup. Located in Japantown, it is a fine-dining Thai restaurant that features an 11-course menu that costs $169 per person.

“The price point doesn’t lend itself to dining on a budget, but despite its variety, the meal won’t over-tax your schedule, with most of the courses arriving together as a sort of miniature banquet for the main,” the Michelin Guide wrote.

4. Tiya (San Francisco)

Tiya is a modern Indian restaurant located in the city’s Marina District on Scott Street. Brothers Sujan and Pujan Sarkar serve as the restaurant’s co-chefs. Tiya’s cocktail menu has drinks named after San Francisco neighborhoods.

“Honored to be in the Michelin Guide!” Tiya wrote on its Instagram story.

5. Burdell (Oakland)

Burdell serves American food with Chef Geoff Davis’ “personal take on soul food” that stems from his grandmother’s inspiration. The restaurant, located at 4640 Telegraph Ave., has a separate brunch and dinner menu.
