Five not-new restaurants in Topeka that should be in your dining rotation
From tacos to burgers and steaks to sushi, Topeka has locally owned restaurants residents rave about.
But there might be a few that may have not caught your eye on your daily commute.
No worries. That's why we have compiled a few you may want to consider the next time you're looking for lunch or dinner while you're out in the capital city.
Most of these restaurants have been a pillar in the Topeka community by keeping their doors open for more than 10 years.
Here's five "not-new" restaurants we think are some of the most underrated restaurants or food trucks in Topeka.
Taco Villa, 5300 S.W. 21st St., Suite A
Taco Villa has been in the Topeka community for more than 10 years. Known for its queso, burritos sanchos and more, this restaurant provides something for all taco lovers.
Blake Geisley, manager at Taco Villa, said the restaurant has always busy since he began working there in 2007. He said on of their top-selling menu items is the "Thing" meal. The "Thing" has meat and cheese, top with sauces melted over a fried flour shell. It's $4.49.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Closed on Sunday.
Yuki Restaurant of Japan, 5632 S.W. 29th St.
Yuki Restaurant of Japan, owned by Jason Jeon, is a great local choice when you're ready to consider a hibachi dinner. Yuki offers sushi rolls, toro, oysters and more along with an in-person hibachi cooked dinner.
Weekly deals are also offered and can be found on the Yuki Restaurant of Japan Facebook page.
Jeon said Yuki has been successful in the Topeka community because of its great food quality and atmosphere.
"It's more friendly and a lot more regulars come here," Jeon said.
Hours: 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 2-9 p.m. Sunday.
North Star Steakhouse, 1100 N.W. 25th St.
North Star Steakhouse has been serving the Topeka community for more than 20 years with its well-known steak options, including porterhouse, T-bone, K.C. strip and more. Customers can also find such specialties as a chicken fried steak meal or a bone-in pork chop.
Steaks at North Star range from $22.99 to $64.99, depending on your choice.
Hours: 5-9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 5-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Closed on Sunday and Monday.
Bobo's Drive-In, 2300 S.W. 10th Ave.
When it comes to questioning where you can purchase a good burger in Topeka, there's no denying that you'll hear Bobo's in that conversation. Celebrating 76 years in business, customers keep coming back for more.
Highlights include a steakburger for $3.79, a cheeseburger for $4.29, jumbo cheeseburger for $8.99, hot dogs and corndogs for $2.99 and so much more.

"The one thing about Bobo's that makes it special is that the things we have that are homemade. The parts that we make fresh every day," owner Tricia Marsh told The Capital-Journal. "We hand slice and batter our onion rings, and we're really proud of that. Our chili on our coney dogs is one thing that is a tradition with Bobo's. It's a recipe that's been carried on.
"Our Spanish burger is a classic. People from back in the 1950s that are still eating at Bobo's say it tastes the same."

Tacos El Guitarron, 1234 S.E. California Ave. and 109 S.E. 29th St.
Though it's not a brick-and-mortar restaurant, Tacos El Guitarron is a food truck that has become well known in the community. This authentic Mexican food includes such different taco options as asada, pollo and pastor, along with tortillas, quesadillas, burritos and more.
Prices at Tacos El Guitarron range from $2 to $12, depending on your order. The business recently established a second truck location at 109 S.E. 29th St.
