Flipping out: These 10 Delaware restaurants have kimchi, s'mores, Fruity Pebbles pancakes
There are plenty of places in Delaware to find buttermilk pancakes.
Or for a bit of decadence, you could head to one of Delaware's three First Watch brunch restaurants for a stack of lemon ricotta pancakes topped with berries, creamy lemon curd and powdered cinnamon sugar. The fall menu unveiled Tuesday includes pumpkin pancakes.
But what if you want something even more extravagant, say flapjacks that taste like s'mores or Fruity Pebbles? Or maybe savory pancakes made with scallions, kimchi, or topped with vegetarian curry?
How about an Austrian-style pancake served "Delaware-style" with local scrapple?

Hill Donut & Pancake House
1845 Marsh Road, Brandywine Hundred; hilldonuts.com
Hill, which has a branch in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, is known for its crazy pancake flavors. The Delaware site, open daily at 7 a.m., doesn't disappoint.
The buttermilk pancakes are made in-house and served with cream cheese frosting. Berries, bananas and chocolate can be added for an additional charge.
The "crazy" flavors include s'mores pancakes made with toasted marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate sauce or try Fruity Pebbles where the sugary cereal is blended into the batter. Other flavors include Oreo, candied bacon, sprinkles, and chocolate mousse with strawberries
Angelo's Luncheonette

What's not to love at this classic, old-school, cash-only lunch counter tucked into a corner of Wilmington's Forty Acres neighborhood? Get the pancakes and they'll come shaped like Mickey Mouse's head. Even if you're an adult. Owner August Muzzi said he used to make them just for children until he started getting complaints. "Adults were like, 'Why can't we get Mickey Mouse?' "
Kalbi Asian Bistro

The family-owned and operated restaurant has been marrying traditional Korean flavors with modern-style cooking in Elsmere for over 25 years. Here you'll find savory Asian pancakes that are crispy on the outside with soft interiors. Flavors include hot pepper and scallion, kimchi (it's made in-house) and seafood with shrimp, scallops, and scallions. Kalbi also has savory vegetarian pancakes.
Kaisy's Delights
1548 Savannah Road, Lewes, and 303 Main St., Millsboro; kaisysdelights.com
The restaurant with branches in Lewes and Millsboro is well-known for its kaiserschmarrn also known as the "Kaisy." It's an Austrian-style pancake with homemade toppings that can be eaten for breakfast or dessert. A traditional Kaisy is served with plum compote and homemade whipped cream. Other varieties include the "Sweetie" made with strawberry compote and whipped cream, the "First Timer," a "kiddie Kaisy" with just whipped cream; the "Delaware" with raspberry compote and scrapple; and the "Skier," a Kaisy with peach compote and sausage. The Lewes restaurant recently got a makeover to resemble a chalet. It now is known as Elevation 26 by Kaisy's Delights.
Masala Kitchen

Dosas and uttapam are somewhat similar to pancakes. Dosas are very thin fermented crepes made from rice and lentil batter and uttapam are thicker fermented crepes also made from rice and lentil batter. You can find these savory Indian snacks at Masala Kitchen, a vegetarian dine-in or take-out that's been in the New Castle Farmers Market since 2013.
The dosas are served with coconut chutney and lentil soup and you can get paneer, pav bhaji (vegetable curry), traditional Mumba jini, and even Nutella. Uttapam comes with a choice of onions, green peppers, green chili, tomatoes and cilantro served with coconut chutney and lentil soup
Quinn's Cafe

Quinn’s Café at the entrance of the Shoppes of Hockessin has been in operation since 2011 and is known for a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The restaurant offers specialty pancakes with toppings that include bananas, blueberries, apples, strawberries, cranberries, walnuts, coconut or chocolate chips. Prices are reasonable ? one pancake with one topping is $4.25, and three pancakes with a topping is $8.95.
Eggcellent

The two family restaurants in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach serve breakfast and lunch daily until 3 p.m. Seasonal pancakes include pumpkin spice dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon and topped with whipped cream. "Holiday" buttermilk pancakes have walnuts, dried cranberries, apples, sugar, cinnamon, and whipped cream.
Peach Blossom Eatery

The breakfast and lunch restaurant in downtown Newark always offers interesting early morning dishes. The "Pineapple Upside Down" pancakes have caramelized pineapples mixed into the batter and the cakes are then topped with caramel, sour cherry whipped cream, and brown butter crunchies. Let me repeat: Brown. Butter. Crunchies.
Drip Café

Drip is opened for open daily for dine-in and take-out in both its Hockessin and Newark locations beginning at 7 a.m. Brunch is all day and menus change with the seasons. You can get simple buttermilk pancakes with butter and maple syrup, but why not go for broke with the bacon-studded caramel apple pancakes topped with salted caramel? You're welcome.
Metro Diner
Locations in Newark, Wilmington and Middletown; metrodiner.com
The chain restaurant often offers a variety of seasonal pancakes. This summer, locations had s'mores pancakes made with a chocolate-infused batter, drizzled with marshmallow cream and chocolate syrup, and sprinkled with Golden Grahams, chocolate chips and powdered sugar.
The restaurants are now offering cinnamon roll pancakes which they say is where "breakfast meets dessert in perfect harmony." The pancakes are cooked with swirls of cinnamon and sugar and topped with a decadent cream cheese icing that melts into the cakes. Crunchy candied pecans and a dollop of cinnamon butter are added for an extra layer of richness.
