Float in a hot air balloon at this Clovis festival

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Hot air balloons are going to be speckling the skies over Clovis this September for the city’s 49th annual Clovis Fest and Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly.

Although traditional hot air balloon rides are not available to the public, the Clovis Chamber of Commerce says visitors can float in a tethered hot air balloon 50 to 75 feet in the sky for $20. No reservations are required, but space is limited so rides are on a first come first serve basis.

According to organizers, pilots usually begin inflating the balloons around 6:15 a.m. and plan for liftoff from the Clovis Rodeo grounds at dawn. Visitors will be able to enjoy breakfast items while they wait for the festivities to begin.

In addition to hot air balloons, organizers say the event will feature over 12 city blocks of festivities, including:

  • A street fair with festival foods and over 300 craft and commercial vendors will take over Pollasky Avenue between 3rd Street and 8th Street.

  • The “International Village” where visitors can experience cultural adventures and live performances will be on the corner of Pollasky and 4th Street.

  • Inflatable Attractions will be available on the east side of 4th Street and Pollasky Avenue (near Two Cities Coffee).

  • A Kids Zone will be located on the east side of 5th Street and Pollasky Avenue.

  • The Made In Clovis and Children’s Business Fair will go down on Pollasky Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets.

Although the hot air balloons will take off just before sunrise, the main grounds will be open on Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Old Town Clovis.
