Retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn't fought competitively since 2015, but he just took to Instagram to inform the world that he's ready to step back into the ring. Pictured in shorts and wearing boxing gloves, he stated simply: "Coming out of retirement 2020."

Mayweather retired in 2015 after defeating Andre Berto. His most notable return since then was in 2017, when he faced off against UFC fighter Conor McGregor, defeating him in a TKO victory which allowed him to surpass Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record as an undefeated champion.

The announcement that he's coming out of retirement came on the same night that the fighter was photographed with Ultimate Fighting Champion president Dana White, where he said that they were "working together again to bring the world another spectacular event in 2020," sparking speculation about who he'll be taking on in his first comeback match. (A fight between Mayweather and Khabib Nurmagomedov, who beat Conor McGregor at the now-famously messy UFC 229 event, was rumored to be taking place in January, but White has reportedly axed the idea.

It remains to be seen whether Mayweather's comeback will be a one-time thing or if he will be taking on multiple fights, as he has previously stated he is happy with his undefeated 50-0 record.

"I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth," he told Reuters this week. "“Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle... You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career."
