Football Fan Asking For "Beer Money" Donates $3 Million To Children's Hospital
After going viral last month on live television for his requests for Venmo donations to add to his beer funds, Carson King is donating the money he has received to charity.
During the ESPN College GameDay football match-up between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University in September, Carson King was spotted with a homemade sign that blatantly stated, "Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished." The sign also listed his Venmo account for viewers to see in the hopes that they would contribute to his beer needs.
According to the Iowa City Press Citizen, not only did viewers make contributions, more than 35,000 people contributed to the beer-loving football fan's Venmo account.
After receiving much attention and income from this gesture at the football game, Carson made a stance to contribute the earnings to children in need.
In a September post on his Instagram account @carsonking2014, he said, "To think this all started as a joke so I could buy a case of Busch Light ?? Pretty neat weekend."

After Busch Beer and Venmo both took notice of Carson's efforts to donate, the companies made a promise to match the amount he raised. The football fan has now raised $3 million and is donating the money to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
“The University of Iowa does the wave to the kids since the hospital overlooks the stadium, and being I’m an Iowa State University fan, I figured this would be my way to help out,” he said in a statement to PEOPLE.
