Former Fighting Dog Gets Freedom Ride After Over 700 Days in Shelter

After spending over 700 days in an animal shelter, Hal the Pit Bull is free. He was found on the scene of a dog fighting ring in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was kept at the shelter as evidence until the perpetrator was sentenced.

Finally, after 700 long days, Hal was on his way to a wonderful foster home. But now, he’s searching for a forever home to spend the holidays and the rest of his days with!

The dog looked so overjoyed to be carried out of the shelter for his freedom ride. Now, the search is on to find him the perfect home. Potential adopters can find out more information by contacting Forgotten Now Family Rescue.

While Hal is in North Carolina, the rescue is accepting out-of-state adopters. This will open up the possibilities to Hal so much in finding his forever home!

While Hal has waited so long to get out of the shelter, it was for good reason. A loophole led to him having to be kept as live evidence in a dog fighting case, in which the perpetrator plead guilty to 32 different counts in the animal cruelty case.

Hal will move on from all of this and find a wonderful home, so be sure to share the news that he is looking for the perfect family.

Making Your New Rescue Dog Feel At Home

When adopting a new dog, it’s important to give them time to decompress after living at the shelter for so long. There are a lot of new sights and sounds in your home that they may not be used to experiencing.

The best way to allow your dog to decompress is to give them a den area: A quiet spot in the house that they can call their own. You can put their bed, toys, and blankets there to encourage them to hang out there. Give them a lot of space and let them rest, as it’s probably pretty jarring to go from a shelter to an odd home they know nothing about.

There, they can rest, sleep, and watch everything happening in the house from a distance. As the dog becomes more comfortable, they will retreat out of their den to spend more time with the family.

Encouraging them to spend time outside their den can be done with the help of some tasty treats and some toys. Playing with them will definitely help to break the ice, and before long, they will be totally comfortable in their new home.
