The ink has barely dried on the surprise emancipation papers from last week's Found and already the addictive NBC series is dropping another bombshell. This one is in the form of mysterious new character Annie, one of Sir's pre-Gabi victims, who's introduced through flashback in Episode 4. We never see her face—we don't even know if she's still alive—but we understand with certainty that she still haunts our protagonist.

The episode ("Missing While a Pawn") opens on Day 322 of Gabi's captivity. Sir has just punished her for not completing her "assignment" (reading Julius Caesar) and Gabi, having thrown the book in a justified fit of rage, discovers a note hidden in its spine. "Day 261," it reads. "My name is Annie and I am going to LIVE. If you're reading this and Sir got you too, Don't give up."

Gabi tears the room apart in search of another message from her ghostly roommate, but Sir catches his latest victim before she can find what she's looking for. "Annie used to like to leave notes in secret places...she was rebellious," he says. "Refused to adapt."

As for what happened to the girl, he tells Gabi threateningly, "The same thing that will happen to you should you continue with this rebellion: I will have to begin again with someone new and just like Annie, you will never be found."

Cut to present day, and we learn that adult Gabi has a closet full of cold-case files, one of which is a box labeled "Annie" that seems to contain only two things—the dress Gabi was wearing when she escaped, and the note Annie left behind.

Sir, knowing from Gabi's footsteps that she's fixating on Annie's case, taunts her from his corner of the basement. "Your hope is admirable," he says. "You really think you'll find her, don't you?"

So what happened to Annie? Is she alive? Is she buried somewhere? Or, wait: What if she's been trafficked? After all, this week's missing-person's case involved the near trafficking of a young boy, and there were multiple references to how victims of trafficking are all but impossible to find. Perhaps that was a clue as to how Sir got rid of victims like Annie, or what he was taking them for in the first place (besides dinner-table theater).

One person who seems poised to get some answers is Lacey, who caught Gabi in a lie (through the power of tells). When she asked her de facto mentor if she thought Sir would ever be found, Gabi replied, "Do I think he'll ever be found? Truthfully, no." Of course, if he is found, that can't spell good news for her.

Found airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
