Frasier Is In the Building! Everything to Know About the 'Frasier' Reboot

Everything old is new again, so it isn’t surprising that streaming service Paramount+ would go back into its library of hit series for a reboot. And, boy, did they pick a winner with Frasier, which received 107 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, with 37 wins, in its 11 seasons on NBC.

“I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.” said Kelsey Grammer when the reboot was announced.

Here's everything we know so far:

When does the Frasier reboot premiere?

Frasier premieres its first two episodes of a 10-episode season on Thursday, Oct. 12 exclusively on Paramount+. New episodes will then drop weekly on Thursdays, exclusively on Paramount+. For those who don't subscribe to Paramount+, CBS will broadcast a special airing of the first two episodes on Tuesday, Oct. 17 beginning at 9:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Is there a Frasier reboot trailer?

It is basically a graphic, but it does tease what's coming:

What will the Frasier reboot be about?

The new series follows Frasier Crane  in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill. Frasier has re-entered the building!

"He's our brave little soldier that continues on in life, finding new challenges and a new love and new people and a new city and stuff like that," Grammer told People. "I'm really very excited about it, and we'll certainly always honor the past. We have to honor the fact that John Mahoney died and that Martin is no longer with us. We'll be dealing with that for sure."

In January 2023, Paramount+ revealed that the new Frasier revival will take place in Boston.

Jack Cutmore-Scott shows that little Freddy has really grown up. And, if we're being honest, he's grown up into a bit of a hunk.

Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan

Jess Salguerio will play Eve, Freddy's college roommate. She's previously appeared in The Expanse, The Boys, Letterkenny, Y: The Last Man and Workin' Moms. Her character Eve is described as “spontaneous, outgoing and bursting with creative energy whether it was asked for or not. Eve is a breath of fresh air. With an innate ability to connect with both Frasier and Freddy, Eve is a critical bridge between father and son as they attempt to reconcile.”

Anders Keith as David

Anders Keith will star as Frasier Crane's nephew, David. It will be Keith's onscreen acting debut after graduating from Julliard in May 2022. The character David is the son of Niles Crane and Daphne Moon and is described as "awkward" and prone to making quirky observations, noting, "Frasier’s nephew David has Niles’ intelligence, Daphne’s smile, and neither of their polish. David’s unearned confidence may confuse some, but Frasier has a fondness for his nephew’s earnest enthusiasm.”

Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle

What is Frasier without longtime producer Roz Doyle in the background? We've  learned that Peri Gilpin will be back for the reboot—sadly as a guest star and not a series regular.

In the original Frasier finale, Roz had just been promoted to station manager at KACL. There's no word yet on her role in the new series.

Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith

Bebe Neuwirth will return to reprise her role as Frasier Crane's ex-wife, the cold-as-ice Lilith, but not as a series regular.

And Deadline reports that Lilith shows up at their son Freddy’s birthday party, where Lilith, in classic form, is far from pleased about having to share Freddy now that Frasier is back living in Boston. What begins as a fun party with friends and family, inevitably becomes a Lilith-and-Frasier showdown for the ages.

Will David Hyde Pierce return to Frasier as Niles?

Unfortunately not. David Hyde Pierce will not be joining Grammer in the Frasier reboot.

“David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles,” Grammer told PEOPLE.

In the series finale Niles remained in Seattle while Frasier quit his radio job and went to Chicago in an attempt to reconnect with his girlfriend Charlotte (Laura Linney).

“In a very funny way, it just took us to a new place, which was what we originally wanted to do anyway, which was a Frasier third act,” Grammer said. “It’s an entirely new life for him.”

But Frasier fans aren’t having any of it! For them, there is no Frasier without Niles!

Will any of the other original Frasier cast members return?

John Mahoney (Martin Crane)

Sadly, John Mahoney died at age 77 on Feb. 4, 2018, so, obviously, he will not take part in the reboot.

Jane Leeves (Daphne Moon)

As Niles’ wife, Daphne would only need to be a part of the show if her hubby came back, because her job as a live-in caretaker for Martin came to an end.

Who's writing the new Frasier?

Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli are writing the new Frasier reboot. Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon will serve as executive producers.

Why is Frasier being rebooted?

Dr. Frasier Crane holds a special place in TV history as a character that has appeared on three different television series: Cheers, Wings and Frasier, tying the record for longest-running television character.

Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from [executive producers] Joe Cristalli, Chris Harris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount +.”

What do fans think of the return of Frasier?

Some fans are excited. But there has been a noticeable amount of confusion as to why there's a need to bring this one back. Most importantly, they feel, as mentioned, the show cannot go on without Niles. Some are sharing their ideas for the reboot. Others are just confused about how old Frasier is at this point.

How did the original Frasier end?

The series finale brought several storylines to their conclusion. Daphne and Miles married and had a baby, Martin and Ronee also wed, Roz was promoted to station manager at KACL, and Frasier decided to take a new job offer at a TV station in San Francisco. But then in a twist, we saw him get off the plane in Chicago, where his girlfriend Charlotte had moved.
