'This is a freak-show look': Beauty vlogger Nikkie Tutorials creates creepy optical illusion with makeup
Nikkie Tutorials is the queen of makeup transformations, and her latest YouTube video doesn’t disappoint.
In her “Reversed Upside Down Eye Makeup Tutorial,” the vlogger gets into the Halloween spirit by creating an optical illusion with her favorite makeup. “I’m so inspired to play with makeup,” she tells viewers at the start of her video. “So a couple of days ago I was scrolling on Instagram, and I came across this insane makeup creation by Nicole Tait.” The goal of the look is to make one eye seem as if it is upside down. Nikkie described the makeup as “full-on Ariana Grande meets Stranger Things meets the beauty community.”
She explains that she wanted to create the look and post it to Instagram, but knowing her followers and their desire to get a breakdown of each step, she opted for a video instead. “It might not be an actual tutorial — it’s just me trying this trend and trying to nail it, and I might fail,” she quips.
It takes only a few minutes to see just how talented she is, and her viewers expressed their support in the comments. “Nikki u take creativity to the next levellll this is actually insane!! 😍😍,” gushes one commenter, while another says it should come as no surprise. “Of course Nikkie slayed this challenge… did we expect anything different?”
Impressed with her talent, one fan wrote, “I can barely do eyeshadow the right way, and Nikkie’s over here doing it perfectly upside down 😭😭😂.” However, most of the feedback was all about the crazy optical illusion of the look. “Omg it really tricks my eyes,” wrote one viewer. “It looks so realistic it’s really messing my brain up,” wrote another.
As the video comes to an end and Nikkie sees the final look, she seems surprised and impressed with her work and cracks jokes about it. “The more I’m finishing up on the base, the more this look is pulling together, and the more I’m thinking I should have been cast for American Horror Story: Freak Show,” she says. “Because this is a freak-show look, honey!”
