Free Slurpee Day is Thursday. Here's how to celebrate 7-Eleven's 97th birthday

As heat levels continue to soar in Texas, 7-Eleven chains are offering one way to cool down: free Slurpees for customers.

When is free Slurpee Day at 7-Eleven?

Slurpee Day is Thursday, July 11. The chain is celebrating its 97th birthday, a day that has also come to commemorate “National Slurpee Day,” when 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes stores give away free small Slurpees as long as they are in supply. The promotion has been celebrated for nearly twenty years.

Customers can also opt-in to 7Rewards, the chain’s online point-redeeming system, to get an additional free Slurpee between July 12th and 31st. 7Rewards is also hosting a Snacks or Sips for a Year contest, through which customers will have the chance to win free Slurpees or snacks for a year by purchasing certain products or using the 7Rewrds app.

Slurpees help support Children’s Miracle Network Hospital

This year, 7-Eleven has partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to organize Free Slurpee Day. The drinks will be served in cups designed in collaboration with the Hospital, and customers will have the option to donate to CMNH when they check out.

Stores will also be offering the limited-time-only flavor MTN DEW Freedom Fusion during the promotion, but Free Slurpee Day will include all regular flavors as well.

7-Eleven stores offer a broad range of products for customers looking to escape the Texas heat. Other limited-edition treats will feature the classic Slurpee flavor, such as Hostess Twinkies with Cherry Slurpee-flavored cream filling and the Drumstick Slurpee Blue Raspberry Vanilla cone.

How many 7-Elevens are there in Texas?

The first 7-Eleven store was founded in Dallas in 1927, when founder and manager of what was then called Southland Ice Company started selling eggs, milk and other necessities out of the ice house storefronts.

Today, there are 1298 7-Eleven stores in Texas, 14% of the total number of branches across the country. Behind California, Texas is home to the second-highest number of 7-Eleven stores in the country.
