MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – When people think of a library, they likely visualize a building full of books; however, Mariposa County has another idea: a tool library.

The Mariposa County Library says they will be creating a tool library to help community members get their projects done without wasting money or storage space.

“Have you ever been in a situation where you needed a specific tool but struggled to justify the expense, didn’t have the storage, or only needed it for a for one-time project?” a social media post by the library reads. “The Mariposa County Library is hoping to start a tool library that will empower individuals to access tools and equipment in these types of situations.”

The library says the tool lending library would work the same way as an ordinary book library; tools, like books, would be able to be checked out for free from their current location.

According to the library, the tool library will eventually have an extensive collection of tools for home repair, gardening, cooking, hobbies and more. The Mariposa County Library currently has a small collection of sewing machines and blenders available for checkout.

Community members are encouraged to provide input and can do so by filling out this online survey.
