'Friends' Stars Open Up About Losing Matthew Perry for the First Time

The main cast members of Friends have spoken out for the first time after the death of Matthew Perry on Oct. 28, at the age of 54.

In a statement shared with People, the five actors—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—said of the tragic loss in a joint statement: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world," the note concluded. All five actors signed the statement.

This is the first comment from any of the well-known actors after Perry's passing over the weekend, as friends, co-stars and fans around the world processed the loss and shared tributes for the late star.

Maggie Wheeler, who played one of Perry's character's love interest on the beloved comedy series, shared a message about the actor shortly after his death went public, writing, "The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared. ??."

Many other cast members, including, Paul Rudd, Aisha Tyler, Kathleen Turner and Hank Azaria—the latter of whom was also a very dear friend to Perry—shared comments on the loss as well.

Perry starred in Friends from 1994 to 2004 as Chandler Bing. Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer made up the rest of the main cast as Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Joey Tribbiani and Ross Geller, respectively.
