Frontier Airlines added new flights from Phoenix. Here's where you can go

It's not every day an airline announces 10 new routes from a single airport.

But that's what Frontier Airlines did Friday at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Frontier said it is adding 10 new cities from Phoenix as part of a major expansion here.

The new routes coincide with the upcoming opening of a new Frontier crew base at the airport. They will boost the number of destinations from Phoenix that Frontier serves with nonstop flights to 22, Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said.

And with airfares starting at $19 one way for some of the new destinations, it gives consumers more choices and increases competition with other airlines, which can lead to lower fares, said Chad Makovsky, director of aviation at Sky Harbor.

"I don't recall this large an expansion of service in one announcement," he said.

Why Frontier is adding flights in Phoenix

Frontier will support its growth at Sky Harbor with a new crew base, which the airline expects will employ up to 180 pilots and 275 flight attendants. The base is scheduled to open in November.

It will be Frontier's eighth pilot base and ninth flight attendant base in the U.S.

Having a new crew base in Phoenix will enable the airline to fly more routes, which will bring more people to Phoenix every day, Biffle said.

Frontier Airlines best fares and how to book

To celebrate the new routes, Frontier will offer introductory one-way fares as low as $19.

The $19 fares were advertised for flights to Orange County on Nov. 8-10, 12 and 15-17. Anyone can book these flights at the $19 fare.

But getting the lowest prices for other routes may require membership in Frontier's Discount Den, a premium service that offers exclusive low fares and promotions. It costs $59.99 per year; first-year members must also pay a $40 enrollment fee.

An airfare check on Frontier's website showed the difference between standard and Discount Den fares is about $5 to $10, depending on the route.

For example, a one-way flight between Phoenix and Seattle can be booked as low as $44 on Jan. 16, 2023, but it's $5 more for people who are not Discount Den members.

One-way flights from Phoenix to Kansas City are as low as $69 for Discount Den members on Jan. 19 and Jan. 22, 2023, but $79 for the general public.
