A Full List of Everyone Who Died on 'Game of Thrones' Tonight
Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3 brought an epic battle to Winterfell, and as fans previously predicted, not everyone made it out alive. A total of seven (7!) characters perished in the battle, including several long-running fan favorites. Here's who we lost in the field.
Dolorous Edd (Ben Crompton)
The first main character to go, Dolorous died saving his pal Samwell Tarly, getting stabbed in the back right after his heroic gesture. Like many who died early in the battle, he’s later reanimated as a wight.
Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey)
Lyanna went out like the hero she was, blocking the path of a giant wight as it tried to storm Winterfell. The wight picked her up and crushed her to death, but not before Lyanna stabbed it through the eye with a dagger.
Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer)
Beric is no stranger to death, but this episode appears to mark his final ending. He lost his life in the fight to protect Arya from an army of wights, sacrificing himself to keep her safe. “The Lord brought him back for a purpose," Melisandre said as Beric died. “Now that purpose has been served.”
Melisandre (Carice Van Houten)
The Red Priestess made a surprise return moments before the battle began, arming the Winterfell side with fire and assisting in the battle against the Night King. When the battle is over, she takes off her youth-preserving choker and collapses outside the gates of Winterfell, fulfilling her promise from season seven that she would return to the kingdom once more – to die. Like Beric, her purpose had been served.
Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen)
Theon died towards the end of this episode, stabbed with his own weapon by the Night King as he tried to protect Bran. On the plus side, Bran told him he was a good man before he died, which is a nice way to go out depending how you feel about Bran.
Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen)
Daenerys’s most loyal advisor and friend died in her arms during the closing moments of the episode – and fittingly, he died protecting her. One of the most upsetting deaths of all, and undoubtedly one that will change Dany’s path from here on out.
