Discover Leesburg offers music, food trucks and more

On the second Friday of the month, when the summer's sweltering afternoons begin to cool off, the city of Leesburg will feature the new free summer event, Discover Leesburg. Check it out from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at the Town Square, 501 W. Meadow St. The event features live music, vendors, food trucks and an evening market on Fifth Street.

Orlando-based singer-songwriter Francesca Tarantino performs on acoustic and electric guitar, and is nifty with her loop pedal. City planners promise that "she'll have you singing and clapping along to classic hits, crowd favorites, and even some of today's pop." Details: 352-728-9786.

Casey Rocket (standing) performs during the popular "Kill Tony" open mic night at the Comedy Mothership. The evening's judges, seated at the table are (l to r) Dave Attell, David Spade and Tony Hinchcliffe. Rocket's profile skyrocketed after a few successful stints on the show.

One tank trip: Tony Hinchcliffe brings edgy shtick to Orlando

Though he can be catty, chauvinistic, polarizing and controversial, there's no denying Tony Hinchcliffe's comedic chops. He's a laugh riot, and he's helped nurture rising talent through his popular podcast.

The touring stand-up comedian, writer, and long-running "Kill Tony" host began his career at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Nowadays, he's at the Comedy Mothership, Joe Rogan’s club in the core of Downtown Austin, Hinchcliffe, where he shows off his professional wordsmith with a wicked edge and equal-opportunity offensiveness.

He was only second only to Nikki Glaser (and maybe Sam Jay) to winning over the crowd at "The Roast of Tom Brady," an appearance that almost didn't happen.

From his membership of the Writer’s Guild to his Comedy Central rolodex of credits, he is a top draft pick to judge roast battles and also extremely well-insulated by the company of the most respected working stand-ups today. Hinchcliffe takes the stage from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Hard Rock Live Orlando, 6050 Universal Blvd. Details: entertainment.hardrock.com/live/orlando.

Oddities Marketplace takes over Lake County Fairgrounds

It can be a little dark, twisted and weird, but the monthly Oddities Marketplace is upbeat and friendly and has become a popular event throughout central Florida, combining the spooky, the kitschy, the mysterious, the beautiful and the hilarious all at once.

Vendors are vetted for all ages, the event features 70-plus vendors hawking taxidermy and bone art, specimens, memorabilia, witchy items and more; live music and food.

The County Oddities Marketplace happens Saturday, July 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 2101 County Road 452, Eustis.

Call 352-875-4224 for more info. Admission and parking are free, and vendor spots still available.
